The Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of Sri Lanka, Chathuranga Abeysinghe, undertook an official visit to Thailand to participate in the UNDP Youth Co Lab Summit, held in Bangkok, where policymakers, development partners, entrepreneurs, and youth leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region gathered to discuss innovative solutions for sustainable and inclusive economic development.<\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok organized and facilitated a series of high-level meetings and business engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral economic and trade relations, promoting investment opportunities, and fostering greater collaboration between the public and private sectors of Sri Lanka and Thailand.<\/p>\n

The official programme commenced with a meeting with the Deputy Secretary-General & senior representatives of the Thailand Chamber of Commerce & the Board of Trade of Thailand (TCC & BOT). Discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade, strengthening private sector partnerships, facilitating business exchanges, and identifying new avenues for commercial cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister also held discussions with Mr. Vikrom Kromodit, founder and Chairman of Amata Corporation, one of Southeast Asia’s leading industrial estate developers. The meeting explored opportunities for investment in Sri Lanka’s industrial sector, with particular emphasis on industrial zone development, manufacturing, logistics, and sustainable industrial growth. The Deputy Minister highlighted the Government of Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic reforms and investor-friendly policies, inviting Amata Corporation to explore investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

As part of the visit, the Deputy Minister met with the vice president & senior representatives of the CP Group, one of Asia’s largest diversified business conglomerates. The discussions centred on potential collaboration in agriculture, food processing, retail, logistics, value chain development, and other sectors of mutual interest. The Deputy Minister underscored Sri Lanka’s strategic location in the Indian Ocean, its skilled workforce, and the country’s growing potential as a regional investment and trade hub.<\/p>\n

To further strengthen business-to-business engagement, the Embassy, in collaboration with the Thai\u2013Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce (TSLCC), organized a Sri Lanka\u2013Thailand Business Forum, which brought together members of the Sri Lankan and Thai business communities. The Business Forum provided an important platform to exchange views on expanding trade, investment, entrepreneurship, and industrial cooperation.<\/p>\n

Throughout the official programme, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, accompanied the Deputy Minister at all official meetings and engagements. The Ambassador reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to advancing Sri Lanka’s economic diplomacy agenda by facilitating strategic partnerships, promoting trade and investment, attracting foreign direct investment, and further strengthening bilateral commercial relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand. Minister Counsellor\/Head of Chancery, Thilini Ihalage, and Minister Counsellor (Commercial), Shiwanthi Abeyrathne, also accompanied the delegation throughout the visit.<\/p>\n

The series of engagements reflected the shared commitment of Sri Lanka and Thailand to further deepen their longstanding economic partnership and expand cooperation across trade, investment, industry, and innovation. The meetings also underscored the Embassy’s proactive role in connecting Sri Lankan stakeholders with leading Thai institutions and businesses to generate tangible economic outcomes and create new opportunities for bilateral collaboration.<\/p>\n
