Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand Facilitates Sri Lankan Participation at Style Bangkok 2024

15 Sri Lankans Rescued from Cybercrime Centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar to be Repatriated on 07 May 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in close coordination with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, has successfully facilitated the rescue of 15 Sri Lankan nationals who had been trafficked and forcibly employed in cybercrime centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar on 06th May 2025. The rescued individuals are scheduled to be repatriated to Sri Lanka on 07 May 2025.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka Contributes to UNESCAP – Side Event during the 81st ESCAP Commission Session
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand and the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Wijayanthi Edirisinghe invited to attend a panel discussion at the BIMSTEC-ESCAP side event held during the 81st ESCAP Commission Session under the theme “Harnessing Digital Technologies for Sustainable Development in the Bay of Bengal Region.” On 23.04.2025.

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand recently facilitated the successful participation of a 13 member Sri Lankan business delegation, comprising representatives from 10 leading companies in the handicraft and lifestyle sectors, at Style Bangkok 2024, held from 31 March to 07 April 2024. The delegation was organized by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) with the aim of promoting the country’s creative industries.
The Sri Lanka pavilion was featured for the first time at Style Bangkok, one of Asia’s most prominent trade fairs for lifestyle, fashion, and design products. The pavilion was inaugurated by Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe,
In addition to participation at the fair, the Embassy arranged a comprehensive technical exposure and knowledge-sharing programme in collaboration with key Thai institutions. The programme included a training session on “Export of Lifestyle Products to the International Market” conducted by the Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT) and the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). Delegates also visited prominent Thai retail outlets and handicraft showrooms to gain valuable insights into product innovation, branding, market trends, and sustainable production practices.
The exposure provided through Style Bangkok 2024 is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Sri Lankan exporters in global markets while encouraging innovation, quality improvement, and sustainability in the sector.
