The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), successfully co-hosted the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok, Thailand. The Conference aimed to strengthen and complement ongoing regional and international efforts to combat online scams and to enhance global cooperation to address existing operational gaps in tackling this complex form of transnational crime. The event brought together over 300 participants from 60 countries, including ministerial-level representatives, senior officials, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, participated in the 421st Session of the Advisory Committee of Permanent Representatives (ACPR) held at the United Nations premises in Bangkok. The Ambassador was invited to chair the final ACPR session of the year, reflecting Sri Lanka’s active and constructive engagement with the UN system in the region.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe joined the charity event organized by the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital in the Mahidol University. The event was organized to introduce an upcoming charity programme, titled “Love for Humanity” replacement of Knee for selected patients in Kandy Hospital by the medical team of Orthopaedic ​unite of the Siriraj hospital. This charity programme organized for commemorates the 70th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand and also celebrates the 70th Birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The project will take place 15–21 November 2025 at the National Hospital in Kandy,

The mission is carried out in the spirit of compassion; the strong Buddhist relationship and close friendship shared between Sri Lanka and Thailand, with generous support of Buddhist temples Abbots including Phra Rajbhavanawachirakon (Luang Por Inthawathai Santussako), Abbot of Wat Pa Nakham Noi, Phra Ratchavachiradhammajarn (Luang Por Sutham Sudhammo), Abbot of Wat Pa Ban Tat, and Phra Brahmasakyawong Wisut (Luang Por Anilman Dhammasakiyo), Assistant Abbot of Wat Bowonniwet Vihara.

​During the remarks Ambassador Edirisinghe thanked Siriraj hospital for organizing charity programme and briefly highlighted the free health system of Sri Lanka and significant achievements of health sector. The event was presided over by Prof. Dr. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital. Distinguished attendees included senior monks from Thailand, Mr. Paitoon Mahapanaporn, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka, and Prof. Dr. Keerati Chareancholvanich, Head of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Physical Medicine​ and Doctors, Officials from Kandy Hospital also joined virtually for the event.

Th​e knee replacements project was initiated by the Faculty of Medicine of Siriraj Hospital for the first time in Sri Lanka through close coordination between the Embassy of Sri Lanka, Bangkok, the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo, and Kandy hospital. This project brings forward a spiritual commitment to harness the power of humanity to create tangible and meaningful benefits for people, while also highlighting Thailand’s sharing their medical expertise and advanced technology with health professionals in Sri Lankan hospitals.

The volunteer medical team will perform knee replacement surgeries at the National Hospital of Kandy, This year, the project provides knee replacement surgeries for 79 patients, totaling 100 knees. The project not only delivers life-changing medical treatment but also includes knowledge transfer to local Sri Lankan medical teams, strengthening long-term public health capacity and promoting sustainable cooperation beyond borders.
