Ambassador of Sri Lanka delivers Opening Remarks at the Fourth International Youth Forum on SDGs and Human Rights in Bangkok

Sri Lanka and Thailand Bolster Defence Cooperation Through Officer-Level Engagement
A 21-member delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) of Sri Lanka, led by Captain S.K. Vidanage, USP, psc, GR of the Sri Lanka Navy, is currently undertaking a study tour in Thailand from 28 July to 8 August 2025.

Sri Lanka and Thailand Deepen Defence Ties Through Staff College Delegation Visit
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand Wijayanthi Edirisinghe and the delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) of Sri Lanka visited the National Defence Studies Institute (NDSI) of Thailand on 01 August 2025 in sideline to the study tour aimed at enhancing bilateral defence cooperation and strategic dialogue between Sri Lanka and Thailand. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Commanding General Pongtep Gaewchaiyo of the NDSI.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe was invited to deliver the opening remarks at the Fourth International Youth Forum on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Human Rights, held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok on 22 October 2024.
While delivering the opening remarks, Ambassador Wijayanthi Edirisinghe shared valuable insights and perspectives on how collaborative efforts can address global challenges and enhance the realization of human rights. The Ambassador emphasized the importance of youth engagement in the pursuit of sustainable development, highlighting Sri Lanka’s commitment to the SDGs and the significance of fostering international partnerships to create inclusive and sustainable solutions and the critical role of international cooperation and diplomacy in advancing global sustainability efforts. Speaking at the United Nations Conference Centre, she outlined key perspectives on mobilizing essential resources, enhancing trade and economic cooperation, protecting the environment, and promoting human rights and social inclusion.
Ambassador further highlighted on establishment the Sri Lanka Sustainable Development Council under Act, No. 19 of 2017 which landmark initiative aims to facilitate and promote sustainable development across the nation, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhancing the country’s commitment to environmental protection, social equity, and economic growth.
The International Youth Forum on Human Rights and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a pivotal event aimed at empowering young leaders to advocate for human rights and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. The forum aims to empower youth by providing a platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among various stakeholders.
This year’s forum gathered youth leaders, policymakers, and experts from around the world to discuss the critical role of international cooperation and diplomacy in achieving the SDGs. The event was jointly hosted by Sustainable Development Council, an Organisation with special consultative status in United Nations ECOSOC, in collaboration with various public and private partners.
