Sri Lanka and Thailand Bolster Defence Cooperation Through Officer-Level Engagement
A 21-member delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) of Sri Lanka, led by Captain S.K. Vidanage, USP, psc, GR of the Sri Lanka Navy, is currently undertaking a study tour in Thailand from 28 July to 8 August 2025.

Sri Lanka and Thailand Deepen Defence Ties Through Staff College Delegation Visit
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand Wijayanthi Edirisinghe and the delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) of Sri Lanka visited the National Defence Studies Institute (NDSI) of Thailand on 01 August 2025 in sideline to the study tour aimed at enhancing bilateral defence cooperation and strategic dialogue between Sri Lanka and Thailand. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Commanding General Pongtep Gaewchaiyo of the NDSI.

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand hosted a delegation from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) of Sri Lanka as part of their Executive Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) exposure programme on 02nd March 2025. The visit aimed to provide participants with valuable insights into the Embassy’s work, particularly in the areas of economic diplomacy.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, welcomed the delegation and delivered opening remarks. In her address, Ambassador Edirisinghe emphasized the crucial role of the Embassy in fostering bilateral trade, investment, and tourism ties between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Following the Ambassador’s address, Counsellor (Commercial), Vireshika Bandara delivered a comprehensive presentation, offering the delegates an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the Embassy’s activities under the economic diplomacy focused on the Embassy’s strategic efforts in promoting economic cooperation, facilitating trade and investment opportunities, and enhancing Sri Lanka’s visibility in the Thai market.
The interaction provided an excellent platform for the Executive MBA participants to understand the dynamics of economic diplomacy and how the Embassy actively contributes to strengthening Sri Lanka’s presence in Thailand.
