“Sri Lanka’s Vibrant Cultural Performances Captivate Audiences in Thailand During 77th National Independence Day and 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations”

Sri Lanka and Thailand Discuss Strengthening Labour Cooperation
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, met with the Minister of Labour of Thailand, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn on 10th March 2025 to discuss strengthening labour cooperation between the two countries. The meeting was held in a spirit of mutual collaboration and reinforced the long-standing bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand, particularly in the areas of trade, tourism, and labour cooperation.

Sri Lanka and Lao PDR Strengthen Cultural and Tourism Cooperation
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, concurrently accredited to Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR), Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, met with the Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of Lao PDR Suanesavanh Vignaket, in Vientiane. The meeting underscored the strong cultural and diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and Lao PDR, particularly in the realms of Theravāda Buddhism, tourism, and cultural cooperation.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Thailand hosted a reception to mark the 77th National Independence Day of Sri Lanka and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand on 10th February 2025. The event took place at the prestigious Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, attended by around 400 distinguished guests, including Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Senior government officials, Business community and members of the Sri Lankan community in Thailand.
The Chief Guest of the evening was Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, President of the National Assembly of Thailand and Theerarat Samrejvanich, Deputy Minister of Interior, and Lalivan Karnchanachari, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs were also graced the occasion.
In her welcome address, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka Wijayanthi Edirisinghe highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “under the visionary leadership of the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of Sri Lanka, our Independence Day celebrations carry a profound theme: ‘Let us unite for national revival.’” She emphasized the enduring friendship and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Thailand, underpinned by shared cultural and historical ties.
The Ambassador also highlighted a defining milestone in bilateral relations—the upcoming Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement, set to come into force which will open new avenues for trade and investment, benefiting businesses in both countries and fostering a more dynamic economic partnership.
Tourism and cultural exchanges were also celebrated as key pillars of the bilateral relationship. The Ambassador announced the upcoming Sri Lanka Food Festival and Ayurveda Week, to be held at the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich culinary heritage and wellness traditions.
Adding vibrancy to the evening, the Sri Lanka Air Force Dance Troupe delivered colorful and dynamic performances, captivating the audience with traditional and contemporary dance displays.
In his remarks, the Chief Guest, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, stated, “As a representative of the legislative branch, I am committed to working closely with the Sri Lanka Ambassador in Thailand, the Sri Lankan Parliament, and the Government of Sri Lanka to strengthen and sustain the relations between our governments, businesses, and people in all aspects going forward.”
The event served as a testament to the strong and enduring partnership between Sri Lanka and Thailand, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening cooperation in political, economic, and cultural spheres for the benefit of both nations.
