The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, Thailand ceremonially commenced work for the year 2026 on 02 January, in keeping with government directives on the commencement of duties of public institutions for the New Year.
Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Participates in the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), successfully co-hosted the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok, Thailand. The Conference aimed to strengthen and complement ongoing regional and international efforts to combat online scams and to enhance global cooperation to address existing operational gaps in tackling this complex form of transnational crime. The event brought together over 300 participants from 60 countries, including ministerial-level representatives, senior officials, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.
The Thai–Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and the Sri Lankan Association of Thailand have extended generous humanitarian contributions to support Sri Lankans affected by Cyclone ‘Ditwah’, which caused severe hardship and damage across several parts of Sri Lanka.
In this regard, donations amounting to THB 328,500 from the Thai–Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and THB 200,000 from the Sri Lankan Association of Thailand, totaling approximately LKR 5.2 million, were made to assist relief and recovery efforts for the affected communities.
The donations were formally handed over to the Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, by the President of the Thai–Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce, Dilan Samarakoon, and the President of the Sri Lankan Association of Thailand, Mr. Damith Silva.
Ambassador Edirisinghe expressed her heartfelt appreciation for these timely and compassionate gestures, noting that such acts of solidarity reflect the strong bonds of friendship between Sri Lanka and Thailand, as well as the deep commitment of Sri Lankan business and community organizations in Thailand to support their homeland during times of crisis. She assured that all contributions would be channelled through the appropriate authorities to provide relief and assistance to those most affected.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok extends its sincere gratitude to the Thai–Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and the Sri Lankan Association of Thailand for their continued cooperation and support, reaffirming the importance of people-to-people ties and community solidarity between the two countries.
