Ambassador of Sri Lanka and Thailand BOI Secretary General Discuss Enhanced Investment Collaboration
Sri Lanka showcased strong commitment to sustainable financing at the Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development held in Bangkok.
The Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development was held from 19-21 November 2025 at the Unite Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The Session was opened by Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). During the opening session, special remarks were made by H.E. Ahmed Mazin, Minister of State for
Finance and Planning of Maldives, Mr. Benjarong Suwankiri, Vice-Minister of Finance of Thailand and the Secretary-General of UNCTAD. The meeting brought together key member States,
including Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Türkiye, the United States of America, and Viet Nam, reflecting strong regional engagement in advancing inclusive and sustainable development financing.
Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Hosts “Sri Lanka: Your Next Best Destination”, Tourism Promotional Evening, to Mark the 70th Anniversary of Sri Lanka–Thailand Diplomatic Relations
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Sri Lankan Airlines, organized “Sri Lanka: Your Next Best Destination”, Tourism Promotional Evening, on 24 November 2025 at the Avani Riverside Hotel, Bangkok, to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, had a meeting with Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary General of Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI), to strengthen bilateral investment ties between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
During the meeting, the Ambassador Edirisinghe acknowledged Thailand’s dynamic investment ecosystem and commended the BOI’s pivotal role in promoting inward and outward investments. She emphasized the longstanding bilateral relationship between the two nations, which is deeply rooted in shared cultural and historical ties.
Ambassador Edirisinghe showcased Sri Lanka as an attractive investment destination in South Asia, leveraging its strategic location, skilled workforce and investor-friendly policies. She highlighted key sectors for collaboration, including logistics and infrastructure, tourism, offshore renewable energy, agriculture and food processing, and gems and jewelry.
The Ambassador extended an invitation for a high level Thai business delegation to visit Sri Lanka in this year to explore emerging investment opportunities and foster deeper economic collaboration.
Secretary General of the BOI, Narit Therdsteerasukdi, reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to strengthening investment ties with Sri Lanka. He highlighted the BOI’s dual role in facilitating both inward and outward investments and assured Sri Lanka of BOI’s support in connecting with leading Thai investors.
The meeting underscored the potential for increased economic cooperation between the two countries, aiming to capitalize on Sri Lanka’s unique advantages as a regional investment hub.
