15 Sri Lankans Rescued from Cybercrime Centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar to be Repatriated on 07 May 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in close coordination with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, has successfully facilitated the rescue of 15 Sri Lankan nationals who had been trafficked and forcibly employed in cybercrime centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar on 06th May 2025. The rescued individuals are scheduled to be repatriated to Sri Lanka on 07 May 2025.
Marking a historic event in Sri Lanka’s bilateral relations with Cambodia and Laos, for the very first time, on 10th August 2024, Ambassador of Sri Lanka and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, C. A. Chaminda I. Colonne launched the web sites of the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok in Khmer and Lao languages.
During the launch, Ambassador and Personnel Representative Chaminda Colonne stated that now the mission’s website would facilitate the people of Cambodia and Laos to read, understand and communicate with ease, on historical, political, trade, socio-economic bilateral relations as well as investment opportunities, consular service, e-commerce etc. and it will be beneficial to strengthen and consolidate Sri Lanka’s relations with Cambodia and Laos in the years to come.
