The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in close coordination with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, has successfully facilitated the rescue of 15 Sri Lankan nationals who had been trafficked and forcibly employed in cybercrime centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar on 06th May 2025. The rescued individuals are scheduled to be repatriated to Sri Lanka on 07 May 2025.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka Engages with Potential Investors in Thailand

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, met with a team of potential investors interested in exploring business opportunities in Sri Lanka. The discussion centered around key potential investment sectors in Sri Lanka with a focus on fostering long term collaboration.

The Embassy and Permanent Mission delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the current investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, emphasizing the country’s strategic location, investor-friendly policies and emerging economic potential. The presentation underscored why Sri Lanka remains an attractive destination for foreign investment.

The investors expressed keen interest in exploring energy projects, including renewable energy and power generation, as well as ventures in fertilizer manufacturing, given Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector’s growing demand.

The meeting also included discussions on expanding collaboration in tourism, education, and cultural exchanges, recognizing the synergies between the two countries and the potential to strengthen bilateral ties further.

This meeting reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to promoting Sri Lanka as a hub for trade, investment, tourism and cultural collaboration, while supporting initiatives that contribute to sustainable economic growth.
