The Ambassador of Sri Lanka & Permanent Representative to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe represented in the 15th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World, held at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall in Bangkok, together with her spouse and two daughters. The family proudly showcased costumes inspired by traditional Sri Lankan attire and crafted from Thai silk by students of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka through a creative fusion with Thailand’s renowned silk craftsmanship.
Sri Lanka Illuminate Bangkok with the Spirit of Vesak at Historic Wat Pho
In a solemn and spiritually uplifting celebration of the International Day of Vesak 2026, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka together with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Nepal in Bangkok jointly hosted a special commemorative event on 28 May 2026 at the iconic Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan (Wat Pho), one of Thailand’s most sacred and historically significant Buddhist temples.
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, Thailand ceremonially commenced work for the year 2026 on 02 January, in keeping with government directives on the commencement of duties of public institutions for the New Year.
The official proceedings began with singing of the National Anthem. This was followed by a solemn two-minute silence, observed in honour and remembrance of the members of the Sri Lanka Tri-Forces and all others who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the motherland.
The staff of the Embassy and Permanent Mission thereafter took the Oath of the Public Service, reaffirming their commitment to the principles of integrity, accountability, unity, and professionalism, and their resolve to carry out their official responsibilities with dedication and efficiency in the year ahead.
Addressing the staff, E. A. S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP emphasized the importance of teamwork, discipline, and a citizen-centred approach in public service. The Ambassador highlighted the Mission’s responsibility to actively advance Sri Lanka’s foreign policy priorities, strengthen bilateral and multilateral engagement, enhance economic relations and effectively serve the Sri Lankan community, while contributing to national recovery and development efforts. The Ambassador encouraged all officers and staff to approach the year 2026 with renewed commitment, resilience, and a results-oriented mindset.
The ceremony concluded with a New Year breakfast, featuring traditional Sri Lankan sweets, symbolizing unity, goodwill, and shared aspirations for a productive and successful year ahead.
