Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, E.A.S Wijayanthi Edirisinghe participated in the Gemports Award 2026 – The Vivid Legacy, Grand Final as the Guest of Honor, held on 15 August 2026 at the Event Hall, Jewelry Trade Center, Bangkok. The Ambassador joined together with General Sonthi Boonyaratglin, former Deputy Prime Minister, and Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), along with distinguished guests, industry leaders, designers, and representatives from the international gem and jewelry community.
Sri Lankan Ambassador Visits Northern Thailand to Strengthen Buddhist and Cultural Ties
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe visited Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand as part of efforts to further strengthen the longstanding Buddhist, cultural and spiritual ties between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand, in collaboration with the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce (TSLCC), successfully organized a Business Forum with the Sri Lankan and Thai business community on 02 July in Bangkok.
The forum was graced by Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of Sri Lanka, Chathuranga Abeysinghe, who delivered the keynote address, and Deputy Minister of Environment of Sri Lanka, Anton Jayakody, during their brief visit to Bangkok to participate in the UNDP Youth Co Summit 2026 and the Ninth Session of the Committee on Environment and Development of the UNESCAP.
The programme commenced with a closed-door discussion between the Deputy Ministers, the Executive Committee of the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce, and officials of the Embassy. Discussions focused on Sri Lanka’s current economic outlook, recent policy reforms, investment opportunities, and strategies to further strengthen trade and commercial partnerships between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Delivering the opening remarks, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe welcomed the distinguished guests and members of the Sri Lankan and Thai business community. The Ambassador reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to advancing economic diplomacy by facilitating stronger trade, investment, and business linkages between the two countries, while encouraging greater private sector collaboration to fully harness the opportunities presented by the Sri Lanka–Thailand Free Trade Agreement.
President of the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce, Dilan Samarakoon, highlighted the Chamber’s ongoing efforts to promote bilateral trade and investment and emphasized the important role played by the Sri Lankan and Thai business communities in fostering stronger economic cooperation between the two countries.
In his keynote address, Deputy Minister Abeysinghe outlined the Government of Sri Lanka’s vision for accelerating industrial growth, promoting entrepreneurship, enhancing the ease of doing business, and creating a more investor-friendly environment. He elaborated on the Government’s policy priorities aimed at encouraging innovation, supporting private sector-led growth, attracting foreign direct investment, and expanding export-oriented industries. He also invited both Sri Lankan and Thai businesses to capitalize on the emerging opportunities in Sri Lanka and to become active partners in the country’s ongoing economic transformation.
The interactive Q & A session provided participants with the opportunity to engage directly with the Deputy Ministers on matters relating to trade, investment, entrepreneurship, policy reforms, and future avenues for bilateral collaboration. The lively discussions reflected the strong interest of both Sri Lankan and Thai businesses in expanding commercial partnerships and contributing to Sri Lanka’s continued economic progress.
The evening concluded with a networking reception providing an excellent platform for business leaders, entrepreneurs, and government representatives to exchange ideas, establish new connections, and explore mutually beneficial partnerships.
