Ambassador of Sri Lanka Participates in the 15th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka & Permanent Representative to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe represented in the 15th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World, held at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall in Bangkok, together with her spouse and two daughters. The family proudly showcased costumes inspired by traditional Sri Lankan attire and crafted from Thai silk by students of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka through a creative fusion with Thailand’s renowned silk craftsmanship.
Sri Lanka Illuminate Bangkok with the Spirit of Vesak at Historic Wat Pho
In a solemn and spiritually uplifting celebration of the International Day of Vesak 2026, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka together with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Nepal in Bangkok jointly hosted a special commemorative event on 28 May 2026 at the iconic Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan (Wat Pho), one of Thailand’s most sacred and historically significant Buddhist temples.
The “Ambassador for a Day 2026” initiative is organized by the Women Ambassadors Group in partnership with United Nations in Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, together with diplomatic missions and UN agencies based in Thailand. The 2026 edition was held under the theme “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls.”
Following a competitive selection process, 42 young leaders were selected to participate in this year’s programme. The programme, provided an opportunity for young people aged 18–25 to shadow women Ambassadors, senior diplomats, and leaders of the United Nations, gaining first-hand experience in diplomacy, leadership, and international cooperation.
As part of the programme, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, hosted Ms. Nongnaphat Chaiyathim Falkeid, a first-year student of International Relations at Thammasat University,
During the two-day programme, Ms. Nongnaphath had the opportunity to gain practical exposure to the work of a diplomatic mission. She was introduced to the functions and responsibilities of the Embassy, familiarized herself with the diplomatic staff, and observed the day-to-day activities involved in diplomatic engagement and representation. She also attended several diplomatic engagements alongside the Ambassador, including a reception hosted at the residence of the Ambassador of Australia and an event organized at the United Nations in Bangkok in connection with International Women’s Day.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka was pleased to support this important initiative which aims to inspire young leaders, promote gender equality, and encourage greater participation of women and youth in international affairs and decision-making.
