Ambassador of Sri Lanka Honoured with the Distinguished Dhamma Award at the Ceremony of the Overseas Dhammaduta Bhikkhus Training Programme in Thailand
The Certificate Conferment Ceremony of the Overseas Dhammaduta Bhikkhus Training Programme Class 32, Dhammaduta Certificate Programme Class 3, and Vipassana Meditation Certificate Programme (International Programme) Class 2 was held on 4 June 2026 at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, in Thailand. During the ceremony, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, H.E. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe was honoured with the Distinguished Dhamma Award in recognition of her contribution and support towards the promotion of Buddhist relations and cooperation.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka Participates in the 15th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka & Permanent Representative to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe represented in the 15th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World, held at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall in Bangkok, together with her spouse and two daughters. The family proudly showcased costumes inspired by traditional Sri Lankan attire and crafted from Thai silk by students of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka through a creative fusion with Thailand’s renowned silk craftsmanship.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok facilitated Sri Lanka’s significant participation at the 73rd edition of the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF), currently being held from 22–26 February 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok.
The Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF) is one of the world’s longest-celebrated and top four premier jewelry trade exhibitions, which is attended by a total of 1,300 companies across 2,800 booths. The inauguration session was graciously presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, who officiated the opening ceremony Fair.
With the facilitation of the Embassy, sixty (60) Sri Lankan companies are participating under the Sri Lanka Pavilion, collectively occupying seventy-five (75) booths. The Pavilion showcases an impressive range of world-renowned Ceylon gemstones, including sapphires and other precious stones, reflecting Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, craftsmanship, and industry excellence.
ທ່ານ Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of Sri Lanka, Sunil Handunnetti, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, and Chairman of the National Gem and Jewelry Authority (NGJA), S. P. Chaminda, graced the opening ceremony of the Sri Lanka Pavilion.
In addition to the exhibitors from Sri Lanka, approximately ten Sri Lankan-owned companies based in Thailand are also taking part in the Fair. Their participation further underscores the active engagement and growing footprint of the Sri Lankan business community within Thailand’s vibrant gems and jewelry sector.
Sri Lanka’s participation at BGJF 2026 reflects the country’s continued commitment to strengthening trade ties with Thailand and the broader ASEAN region, while promoting Ceylon gems and jewelry to the global marketplace. The Embassy remains dedicated to supporting Sri Lankan exporters and fostering mutually beneficial commercial partnerships between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
