As part of her official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Cambodia, H.E. E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Ministry of Interior on 04 August 2026. The meeting underscored the shared commitment of Sri Lanka and Cambodia to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in addressing transnational organized crime, combating cyber-enabled fraud and human trafficking, and enhancing consular collaboration.
Sri Lanka Inaugurates its First Honorary Consulate in Cambodia, Marking a New Chapter in Bilateral Relations
Marking a significant milestone in the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Cambodia and reaffirming the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka officially inaugurated its first Honorary Consulate in the Kingdom of Cambodia on 05 August 2026 at the historic Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh.

The opening ceremony was presided over by General Natthaphon Nakpanich, Minister of Defence, and attended by the Deputy Minister of Defence, the Permanent Secretary for Defence, Ambassadors, Armed forces commanders, Representatives from allied nations, Distinguished guests, and Defense equipment manufacturers from around the world.
The Defense & Security 2025 event serves as one of the biggest defense and security exhibitions in the ASEAN region, held biennially under the theme “The Power of Partnership.” The exhibition aims to promote defense cooperation, technology exchange, and the development of joint strategies among nations.
This year, the event features over 617 defense manufacturers from 38 countries and 25 international pavilions from leading nations such as China, France, Germany, South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom. The exhibition is also attended by 289 high-level delegates from 40 delegations across 27 countries, including defence ministers and armed forces commanders, as well as business and professional visitors, all participating to foster cooperation in defense development.
In addition, Ambassador also visited exhibition includes technical lectures by experts, and live demonstrations of defense equipment throughout the four-day exhibition.
The defense industry in Southeast Asia continues to grow steadily, reflecting regional awareness of the importance of technological development to strengthen national security. Ambassador have emphasized the modernization of defense systems and the integration of new technologies to address the challenges of the digital era.
