Sri Lanka and Thailand to Strengthen Labour Cooperation with Signing of Landmark Agreements
Sri Lanka and Thailand further strengthened bilateral cooperation in the field of labour with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Labour Cooperation and a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on the Employment of Sri Lankan Workers in Thailand today, 14 September 2026, in Bangkok.
“Gem Sri Lanka 2027” Launch Strengthens Sri Lanka – Thailand Gem and Jewellery Cooperation
The Gem Sri Lanka 2027 was unveiled in Bangkok on 06 September 2026, bringing together key stakeholders to promote Sri Lanka’s gem and jewellery industry ahead of its fourth edition in January 2027. The launch was organised by the Ceylon Gem & Jewellery Traders Association (CGJTA).
On May 28th, to mark the 68th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Cambodia, and to convey a message of felicitations from HE Mr. RavinathaAryasinha, the Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Sri Lanka to his counterpart, HE Mr. Ouch Borith, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, HE Mrs. Samantha K. Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Thailand met the Ambassador of Cambodia to Thailand, HE Mr. OukSorphorn.
Recalling the long standing traditional relations between the two countries based on the bedrock of Theravada Buddhism, the two Ambassadors exchanged greetings on the occasion. In the prevailing health crisis, the meeting was seen as a possible alternative to demonstrate the continued interest and importance placed on furthering the bilateral relations of the two countries. It was agreed to look for the earliest occasion to operationalize the Memoranda of Understanding already agreed upon between the two Foreign Ministries and the respective Chambers of Commerce. The two Ambassadors also exchanged views on opportunities to work together to promote Buddhist trail tourism and trade between the two countries.
The Sri Lankan Ambassador offered a basket of Sri Lankan products including the famous Ceylon tea and cinnamon to the Cambodian Ambassador. Head of Chancery Mrs. PoornimaGunasekera accompanied Ambassador Jayasuriya while Mr. Tan Pheary, Second Secretary and Mr. HengSovannarith, Commercial Attaché were associated with Ambassador Sorphorn.
