The Sri Lankan delegation, led by Hon. Anton Jayakody, Deputy Minister of Environment, actively participated in the Ninth Session of the Committee on Environment and Development (CED-9) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), held in Bangkok from 1 to 3 July 2026.
Sri Lanka Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Environmental Cooperation at ESCAP’s Ninth Committee on Environment and Development
Sri Lanka is actively participating in the Ninth Session of the Committee on Environment and Development (CED-9) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), which commenced in Bangkok on 29 June 2026 and will continue until 3 July 2026. Convened at the ministerial level, the Session has brought together ministers, deputy ministers, senior government officials and representatives from over 40 member States and associate members of the Asia-Pacific region, together with the United Nations system, international organizations and other stakeholders to advance regional cooperation on environment and sustainable development. The session is focusing on integrated approaches to tackling the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution while accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
