Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka attends 8th South and South-West Asia Forum on Sustainable Development in New Delhi
The Eighth South and South-West Asia Forum on Sustainable Development has taken place in New Delhi, India from 11th to 12th November 2024, co-hosted by the NITI Aayog of the Government of India and Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with the UN Resident Coordinator, with a strong call for renewed commitment, accelerated efforts and innovative solutions to meet development ambitions. The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe was invited to attend the forum.
Promoting Buddhist Religious Tourism: Sri Lanka and Thailand Collaborate on ‘Solosmastana’ Documentary
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Public Broadcasting Service of Thailand (Thai PBS), are producing a documentary on ‘Solosmastana’, featuring the 16 sacred religious sites of Sri Lanka. This initiative aims to strengthen Buddhist religious tourism between the two nations, highlighting shared cultural and spiritual heritage.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand Wijayanthi Edirisinghe held a fruitful interaction with the Executive Committee of the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce on 22nd August 2024 to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
During the meeting, Ambassador Edirisinghe emphasized the strong and longstanding ties between the two nations, highlighting the potential for increased collaboration in key sectors such as trade, investment and tourism. She discussed the importance of leveraging the Chamber’s role in facilitating business partnerships and fostering greater economic integration between Sri Lankan and Thai enterprises.
President of the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce expressed his enthusiasm for deepening economic relations and discussed various initiatives that the Chamber is undertaking to support business activities between the two countries.
During the interaction, an overview of the economic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand and Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement was presented by Counsellor (Commercial) Vireshika Bandara to the Executive Committee of the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce. First Secretary/Head of Chancery A.W.S. Samanmali and Attaché Anjana Ileperuma of the Mission also attended.
The meeting was concluded with a mutual agreement to continue working closely to achieve shared goals and to organize future events that will further enhance economic ties. Both Embassy and the Chamber acknowledged the importance of sustained dialogue and cooperation in driving growth and prosperity.
