Ambassador of Sri Lanka Meets with Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade of Thailand
Embassy of Sri Lanka Meets with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) to Strengthen Bilateral Tourism Cooperation
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok held two productive meetings with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) as part of its ongoing preparations to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Sri Lanka showcased strong commitment to sustainable financing at the Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development held in Bangkok.
The Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development was held from 19-21 November 2025 at the Unite Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The Session was opened by Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). During the opening session, special remarks were made by H.E. Ahmed Mazin, Minister of State for
Finance and Planning of Maldives, Mr. Benjarong Suwankiri, Vice-Minister of Finance of Thailand and the Secretary-General of UNCTAD. The meeting brought together key member States,
including Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Türkiye, the United States of America, and Viet Nam, reflecting strong regional engagement in advancing inclusive and sustainable development financing.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently met with the Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, Arada Fuangtong, to discuss strengthening trade relations between the two nations.
The Department of Foreign Trade of Thailand is a key government agency under the Ministry of Commerce. Its primary mission is to formulate trade policies, negotiate trade agreements and ensure compliance with trade regulations.
During the meeting, Ambassador Edirisinghe expressed appreciation for Thailand’s continued support in fostering trade and investment collaboration.
The Ambassador congratulated Thailand on the successful signing of the Free Trade Agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) on 23 January 2025 in Davos. She emphasized the potential to further enhance bilateral trade ties, particularly with the implementation of the Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement this year.
The discussion also focused on fostering collaboration for trade awareness and business networking sessions to educate businesses in both countries on the benefits and opportunities under the Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement.
The Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade, Arada Fuangtong warmly welcomed the Ambassador and underscored the potential of the Sri Lanka-Thailand FTA in expanding trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade partnerships and exploring new avenues for collaboration. First Secretary/Head of Chancery, A.W.S. Samanmali and Counsellor (Commercial), Vireshika Bandara also joined the discussion.
