Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Participates in the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), successfully co-hosted the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok, Thailand. The Conference aimed to strengthen and complement ongoing regional and international efforts to combat online scams and to enhance global cooperation to address existing operational gaps in tackling this complex form of transnational crime. The event brought together over 300 participants from 60 countries, including ministerial-level representatives, senior officials, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP Chairs 421st Session of the ACPR in Bangkok
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, participated in the 421st Session of the Advisory Committee of Permanent Representatives (ACPR) held at the United Nations premises in Bangkok. The Ambassador was invited to chair the final ACPR session of the year, reflecting Sri Lanka’s active and constructive engagement with the UN system in the region.
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok hosted a vibrant Christmas celebration on 23 December 2025 at the Embassy premises, bringing together members of the Sri Lankan and Thai communities, religious representatives, and Embassy staff in a warm and festive atmosphere.
In her opening remarks, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, welcomed the gathering and reflected on the enduring values of peace, compassion, and goodwill that define the spirit of Christmas and unite people across cultures and faiths. She also solemnly remembered the Sri Lankan nationals affected by Cyclone Ditwah, which caused extensive devastation across Sri Lanka, resulting in the tragic loss of life and widespread displacement of families. The Ambassador expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Sri Lankan community in Thailand and Thai friends for their solidarity, generous support, and contributions towards relief and recovery efforts, noting that such acts of kindness would have a lasting impact on rebuilding lives and restoring hope.
The religious observances were led by Reverend Dr. Manjula Priyantha, Principal & Director of Don Bosco Higher Vocational Education, Sri Lanka who delivered a meaningful blessing and reflection, offering spiritual comfort and underscoring the true essence of Christmas. Pastor Sean Rajapaksa, representing the International Church of Bangkok, also delivered a thoughtful message, further enriching the spiritual significance of the occasion.
The highlight of the celebration was a captivating Christmas carol performance featuring staff members of the Embassy, which was warmly received by the audience. Visitors present at the event also brought gifts for the children affected by the recent devastation in Sri Lanka, reflecting the true spirit of Christmas through acts of generosity and compassion.
The celebrations were further enriched by traditional Sri Lankan cuisine and cultural elements, offering guests an opportunity to experience Sri Lanka’s rich heritage and fostering meaningful cultural exchange.
The Christmas celebration served as a platform to strengthen bonds within the Sri Lankan community in Thailand while reaffirming the Embassy’s commitment to promoting unity, inclusivity, and people-to-people connections.
