Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka Explores Collaboration with Chitralada Technology Institute of Thailand

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to UNESCAP in Bangkok, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, was invited to deliver a lecture on “Guardians of the Dhamma: The Role of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Anagarika Dharmapala’s Pioneering Efforts to Preserve Buddhagaya” at the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, one of Thailand’s foremost centres of Buddhist higher education on 17 March 2026.
Ambassador Hosts Ms. Sri Lanka 2025 to Promote Cultural and Creative Collaboration Between Sri Lanka and Thailand
The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently hosted Ms. Sri Lanka 2025, Prathiba Liyanarachchi, at the Official Residence of the Ambassador in Bangkok. The meeting was attended by members of the Embassy staff and several Sri Lankan ladies residing in Thailand.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to the UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, paid a visit to the Chitralada Technology Institute (CDTI) in Bangkok, following an invitation extended by Associate Professor Khunying Sumonta Promboon, President of Chitralada Technology Institute.
Chitralada Technology Institute, established under the royal initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (Rama IX), is a premier higher education institution in Thailand as a model of excellence in vocational and technical education.
During the meeting, Ambassador Edirisinghe emphasized the importance of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in fostering national development and driving innovation. She highlighted the potential for robust institutional collaboration between Chitralada Technology Institute and Sri Lankan institutions, particularly in areas of technology and vocational education.
Ambassador Edirisinghe informed Sri Lanka’s University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC), and several technical colleges operating under the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) as key prospective partners for CDTI. She proposed collaborative initiatives such as, Student and faculty exchange programs, Curriculum development and knowledge sharing and exploration of scholarships for Sri Lankan students pursuing studies in relevant technical fields at CDTI.
President, Associate Professor Khunying Sumonta Promboon warmly welcomed the proposal and conveyed CDTI’s keen interest in establishing academic and technical partnerships with Sri Lanka’s vocational and higher education institutions.
The discussion was joined by other senior CDTI officials, including, Vice President Asst. Prof. Chaiwit Thanapaisal, M.D., Vice President Asst. Prof. Dr. Santanee Phasuk, Dr. Chumpol Thiengtham, Advisor to the President and Asst. Prof. Buarong Lewchalermwongse, Assistant to the President.
Ambassador Edirisinghe was accompanied by A.W.S. Samanmali, Head of Chancery, and Shiwanthi Abeyrathne, Minister Counsellor of the Sri Lankan Embassy and Permanent Mission in Bangkok.
