Sri Lanka–Thailand Medical Partnership to Deliver 71 Free Knee Surgeries
A special Buddhist fundraising event was held in support of a landmark humanitarian medical initiative aimed at enhancing access to orthopedic care in Sri Lanka.

15 Sri Lankans Rescued from Cybercrime Centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar to be Repatriated on 07 May 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in close coordination with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, has successfully facilitated the rescue of 15 Sri Lankan nationals who had been trafficked and forcibly employed in cybercrime centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar on 06th May 2025. The rescued individuals are scheduled to be repatriated to Sri Lanka on 07 May 2025.

Ambassador-designate Wijayanthi Edirisinghe recently held productive discussions with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Air Asia to promote Buddhist tourism in Sri Lanka. The talks centered on initiatives to boost tourism by highlighting Sri Lanka’s rich Buddhist heritage.
The Embassy in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Air Asia is set to arrange a media familiarization tour, featuring renowned Youtubers from Thailand with the aim to showcase and promote Sri Lanka’s famous Buddhist sites, providing authentic insights and encouraging more Thai tourists to explore these spiritual destinations.
This initiative is expected to significantly increase the inflow of Thai tourists to Sri Lanka, strengthening cultural ties and contributing to the growth of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
