Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka attends 8th South and South-West Asia Forum on Sustainable Development in New Delhi
The Eighth South and South-West Asia Forum on Sustainable Development has taken place in New Delhi, India from 11th to 12th November 2024, co-hosted by the NITI Aayog of the Government of India and Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with the UN Resident Coordinator, with a strong call for renewed commitment, accelerated efforts and innovative solutions to meet development ambitions. The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe was invited to attend the forum.
Promoting Buddhist Religious Tourism: Sri Lanka and Thailand Collaborate on ‘Solosmastana’ Documentary
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Public Broadcasting Service of Thailand (Thai PBS), are producing a documentary on ‘Solosmastana’, featuring the 16 sacred religious sites of Sri Lanka. This initiative aims to strengthen Buddhist religious tourism between the two nations, highlighting shared cultural and spiritual heritage.
On 16th August 2024, Ambassador-designate of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand and the Permanent Representative to United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia & Pacific (UNESCAP), Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, formally presented open copies of the Letters of Credence, Letter of Recall and the written Speech to His Majesty the King of Thailand. These were received by the Director General of Protocol, Chakkrid Krachaiwong, at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok.
During the official rendezvous, Ambassador-Designate Edirisinghe expressed her eagerness to enhance the robust and concrete ties that exist between Sri Lanka and Thailand. The discussions focused on various themes of mutual interest, including commerce, investment, cultural exchanges and regional interface.
In her remarks, Ambassador-Designate Edirisinghe even highlighted the paramountcy of the shared values and historical homogeneity. and articulated her commitment to advancing the partnership through collaborative efforts and strategic dialogue.
The Ambassador-Designate extended her gratitude to the Royal Thai Government for the assistance rendered to the Sri Lankan victims of trafficking who are being repatriated to Sri Lanka.
Director General of Protocol, Chakkrid Krachaiwong, greeted Ambassador-Designate Edirisinghe to Thailand and demonstrated Thailand’s readiness to support Sri Lanka. He went on to record his appreciation to the Government of Sri Lanka for the warm hospitality extended during the official visit by Prime Minister in February 2024. The Director General emphasized the essence of sustained cooperation and the potential for reinforcing the bilateral equation.
