Ambassador designate of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand Wijayanthi Edirisinghe assumes duties
Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Participates in the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), successfully co-hosted the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok, Thailand. The Conference aimed to strengthen and complement ongoing regional and international efforts to combat online scams and to enhance global cooperation to address existing operational gaps in tackling this complex form of transnational crime. The event brought together over 300 participants from 60 countries, including ministerial-level representatives, senior officials, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP Chairs 421st Session of the ACPR in Bangkok
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, participated in the 421st Session of the Advisory Committee of Permanent Representatives (ACPR) held at the United Nations premises in Bangkok. The Ambassador was invited to chair the final ACPR session of the year, reflecting Sri Lanka’s active and constructive engagement with the UN system in the region.
The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand concurrently accredited to the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic assumed duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Thailand on August 12, 2024.
Addressing the Embassy staff, following the assumption of duties, Ambassador – designate Wijayanthi Edirisinghe outlined the essence of expanding & reinforcing the steadfast and multifaceted bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka-Thailand into a dynamic political, commercial and socio-cultural equation that would diversify the spheres of cooperation.
She also emphasized the significance of enhancing the trade & economic matrix after the conclusion of the Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (SLFTA) that would be fully executed from 01 of January, 2025.
Ambassador-designate Wijayanthi Edirisinghe is a career diplomat with a service of 22 years in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service. Her career resume depicts her serving in various capacities both at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as at Sri Lanka’s Missions abroad. Her last overseas assignment was as Deputy Head Mission/Minister at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Washington D.C. USA. She has amassed her experience too with successful stints at Sri Lanka Mission in Poland and in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Prior to being assigned Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Ms. Edirisinghe served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capacity of Director General at the helm of the Human Resource Development, Research & Training, and Performance Review & Implementation Divisions.
Ambassador – designate Edirisinghe holds a Mphil and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the National Defence University {NDU} Islamabad, Pakistan. She also graduated with BA (Hons) from the University of Colombo.
She is married and a mother of two daughters.
