15 Sri Lankans Rescued from Cybercrime Centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar to be Repatriated on 07 May 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in close coordination with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, has successfully facilitated the rescue of 15 Sri Lankan nationals who had been trafficked and forcibly employed in cybercrime centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar on 06th May 2025. The rescued individuals are scheduled to be repatriated to Sri Lanka on 07 May 2025.

A delegation from the Sri Lanka Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) consists of 33 members, recently concluded a successful visit to Thailand, aimed at strengthening defense cooperation and enhancing mutual understanding between the two nations.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe warmly welcomed the defence delegation to the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok and highlighted the importance of this visit in strengthening the strategic partnership between Sri Lanka and Thailand. The Ambassador reiterated Sri Lanka’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in defense and military education.
The delegation, led by Air Commodore Amal Perera, Chief Instructor – Air Wing of the Defence Service Command & Staff, and defence officials from Sri Lanka Army, Navy , Airforce and officers from Bangladesh, Napal, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia also participated in the event. The visit underscored the strong bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and Thailand and provided an opportunity for high-level discussions on defense strategies, regional security, and military education.
During the stay, the delegation engaged in a series of productive meetings with senior officials from the Royal Thai Armed Forces and visited key military institutions and training facilities across the country. The visit marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to deepen military and defense relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
