Embassy of Sri Lanka Meets with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) to Strengthen Bilateral Tourism Cooperation
Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Participates in the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), successfully co-hosted the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok, Thailand. The Conference aimed to strengthen and complement ongoing regional and international efforts to combat online scams and to enhance global cooperation to address existing operational gaps in tackling this complex form of transnational crime. The event brought together over 300 participants from 60 countries, including ministerial-level representatives, senior officials, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP Chairs 421st Session of the ACPR in Bangkok
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, participated in the 421st Session of the Advisory Committee of Permanent Representatives (ACPR) held at the United Nations premises in Bangkok. The Ambassador was invited to chair the final ACPR session of the year, reflecting Sri Lanka’s active and constructive engagement with the UN system in the region.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok held two productive meetings with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) as part of its ongoing preparations to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand. The visiting delegation from the Ministry of Tourism & Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) also joined the meetings.
During the discussions, Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, particularly in the area of Buddhist tourism, which has long served as a significant cultural and spiritual bridge between the two nations.
Mr. Jayasiri Tennakoon, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism of Sri Lanka, delivered comprehensive presentations highlighting Sri Lanka’s major tourist attractions and the country’s diverse potential for spiritual, cultural, and leisure travel.
Throughout the engagements, both sides exchanged views on strengthening tourism linkages through enhanced dialogue, increased delegation exchanges, and closer institutional cooperation. The discussions focused on the importance of undertaking familiarization (FAM) tours to deepen cultural understanding and promote tourism development, as well as the potential for joint promotional activities designed to advance Buddhist religious diplomacy and position Sri Lanka and Thailand as leading Buddhist tourism destinations in Asia.
At the meeting with TAT, Ms. Patsee Permvongsenee, Executive Director for ASEAN, South Asia, and South Pacific Region, along with four senior officials, represented the Thai side. The TTAA meeting was attended by Mr. Viboon Kamontho, Vice President, together with nine committee members.
Ms. Shiwanthi Abeyrathne, Minister Counsellor (Commercial) of the Embassy, and Ms. Nithini Senanayake, Assistant Director for Marketing and New Product Development of the SLTPB also participated in the meetings.
The Embassy looks forward to continued collaboration with TAT, TTAA, and other key stakeholders as both countries work toward expanding partnerships in tourism and cultural exchange.
