The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand organized a special alms giving ceremony at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand on 12 May 2026 in honour of the visiting Buddhist delegation led by Most Venerable Warakagoda Dhammasiddhi Sri Pagghananda Gnanarathanabidhana Mahanayake Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the historic Asgiri Maha Viharaya and the Mahanayake thero of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siyamopali Maha Nikaya.
Sri Lanka Ambassador Leads Tribute at Herostone (Nadukal) 2nd Anniversary Commemoration in Kanchanaburi,Thailand
The 2nd anniversary of the Herostone (Nadukal) was commemorated at Wat Thaworn Wararam, honoring the tens of thousands of Asian civilian forced laborers who perished during the construction of the Burma Railway construction, also known as the Thai-Burma “Death Railway,” during World War II.
Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe presented Letters of Credence to the Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana of UNESCAP on 13th September 2024 at the UNESCAP Secretariat in Bangkok.
While conveying warm greetings the Government of Sri Lanka Ambassador Wijayanthi Edirisinghe assured Sri Lanka’s continued fullest support and cooperation to UNESCAP in achieving common Sustainable Development Goals.
Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana welcomed Ambassador Edirisinghe and expressed her enthusiasm for working closely with Sri Lanka. She highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the pressing challenges facing the region and reaffirmed UNESCAP’s support for Sri Lanka’s development goals. She recalled on participation of high level delegations from Sri Lanka for UNESCAP events and further requested active contribution from the Ambassador & Permanent Representative for the future cooperation between Sri Lanka and UESCAP.
In her remarks, Ambassador Edirisinghe emphasized Sri Lanka’s dedication to contributing to the regional initiatives led by UNESCAP and underscored the country’s commitment to enhancing economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social inclusivity within the region.
The meeting underscored the strong partnership between Sri Lanka and UNESCAP and set the stage for future collaborative efforts aimed at achieving the shared goals of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific.
Secretary of the Commission Lorenzo Santucci, First Secretary and Deputy Permanent Representative A.W.S. Samanmali, Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative Vireshika Bandara from Sri Lanka Mission in Bangkok joined the discussion.
