Strengthening Post-Disaster Recovery Cooperation: Ambassador of Thailand Meets Executive Director of ADPC

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe had a meeting with Mr. Aslam Perwaiz, Executive Director of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) at the ADPC premises, to discuss continued cooperation in post-disaster recovery and long-term resilience building in Sri Lanka following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. During the meeting, H.E. the Ambassador expressed
her sincere appreciation for the timely technical and monetary assistance extended by ADPC in response to the impacts of Cyclone Ditwah, which caused widespread damage across several parts of Sri Lanka. In this regard, the Ambassador formally handed over a Letter of Acknowledgement from Hon. H M Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign
Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka to the Executive Director of ADPC, conveying the Government of Sri Lanka’s appreciation for ADPC’s support and solidarity.

Annex A – 03rd BOT ADPC

Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne was elected as Co-Chairperson of the Student Relations Committee of the AIT at the Board of Trustees Meeting of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand held in hybrid mode on 25th January 2022.
The Meeting was chaired by Dr. Tongchat Hongladaromp, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and attended by Dr. Eden Y. Woon, President of the AIT, Dr. Suwit Khunkitti, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Former Minister of Education of Thailand and one of the Vice Chairs of the Board, other members to the Board, Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Ambassadors of Bangladesh, Canada, France, India, Indonesia, Pakistan and representatives from the Diplomatic Missions of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Nepal, Vietnam in Bangkok.

The Board elaborated on the plans for 2022 including expanding academic programmes and teaching, research, outreach, global network, new university partnerships, AIT Hub project, AIT Strategy Task Force etc.

Joining the meeting online Ambassador Chaminda Colonne expressed appreciation to Dr. Eden Y. Woon, President of AIT for his tremendous efforts to achieve the Goals of AIT, while facing common challengers of COVID-19 pandemic. Ambassador Chaminda Colonne also highlighted on the initiatives taken recently to finalize the MoU between AIT, Thailand and State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovations of Sri Lanka on possible partnerships in skill development sector in Sri Lanka and MoU on Capacity Building PhD Partnership Programme between the AIT, Thailand and UGC, Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has been represented on the AIT Board of Trustees since 1977 and enjoying long-standing partnerships and collaborations between AIT and Higher Education Institutes in Sri Lanka.
