Strengthening Buddhist Heritage Diplomacy: Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Thailand Delivers a Lecture at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to UNESCAP in Bangkok, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, was invited to deliver a lecture on “Guardians of the Dhamma: The Role of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Anagarika Dharmapala’s Pioneering Efforts to Preserve Buddhagaya” at the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, one of Thailand’s foremost centres of Buddhist higher education on 17 March 2026.
Ambassador Hosts Ms. Sri Lanka 2025 to Promote Cultural and Creative Collaboration Between Sri Lanka and Thailand
The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently hosted Ms. Sri Lanka 2025, Prathiba Liyanarachchi, at the Official Residence of the Ambassador in Bangkok. The meeting was attended by members of the Embassy staff and several Sri Lankan ladies residing in Thailand.
Sri Lanka pavilion was opened by H.E the Ambassador, Mrs. Samantha K. Jayasuriya on 04 September 2019.FHT-Thailand’s leading trade-only food and hospitality exhibitionwas held from 04 – 07 September 2019 at BITEC Exhibition Centre, Bangkok with the participation of 550 exhibitors from 40 countries with 11 International Pavilions from China, Denmark, EU, Italy, Japan, Korea,and Sri Lanka and the exporters were able to make useful links to explore potentials in beverage sector in Thailand and into the larger ASEAN market.
The Embassy also simultaneously facilitated the investment promotion mission by the Board of Investment (BOI) to Thailand from 3-5 September 2019.The delegation led by Dr. HarashaSubasinghe, a member of the Board comprised Ms. Nilupul De Silva, Director (Investment Promotion) and Mr. Sudath J. Jayasekara, Assistant Director (Investment Promotion),was joined by Ambassador H.E. Mrs. Samantha K. Jayasuriya and First Secretary ( Commerce) Mr. Anil Sirimanne, where they held useful investment promotional discussions with the members of Thai Chamber of Commerce, Thai Gem and Jewelry Trade Association, Thai National Shipping Council, Thai Italian Chamber of Commerce and other individual investors/consultant. The discussions with the Siam Cement Group (SCG)focused on sharing views on further enhancing investment opportunities into new areas identified by both Sri Lanka and SCG.
On 5 September 2019, at an event hosted by the Embassy, the BOI delegation met and held an interactive discussion with the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce on opportunities to invest in Sri Lanka, while the exhibitors to the FHT-2019 beverage sector of Sri Lanka also joined the discussion sharing their views on prospects in investing and establishing joint ventures in Thailand and in exploring similar opportunities available in Sri Lanka to start joint investments.The discussion was followed by a reception jointly hosted by the Embassy and the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce.
