Sri Lankan Ambassador Addresses Students at Stamford International University, Bangkok

15 Sri Lankans Rescued from Cybercrime Centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar to be Repatriated on 07 May 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in close coordination with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, has successfully facilitated the rescue of 15 Sri Lankan nationals who had been trafficked and forcibly employed in cybercrime centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar on 06th May 2025. The rescued individuals are scheduled to be repatriated to Sri Lanka on 07 May 2025.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka Contributes to UNESCAP – Side Event during the 81st ESCAP Commission Session
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand and the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Wijayanthi Edirisinghe invited to attend a panel discussion at the BIMSTEC-ESCAP side event held during the 81st ESCAP Commission Session under the theme “Harnessing Digital Technologies for Sustainable Development in the Bay of Bengal Region.” On 23.04.2025.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, delivered a keynote speech at the event titled “Meet the Ambassador” organized by Stamford International University, Asoke Campus in Bangkok, Thailand on 13th March 2025. The event provided an invaluable opportunity for students to interact with the Ambassador and gain insights into Sri Lanka–Thailand relations.
Stamford International University is a private university in Thailand established in 1995 that offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs with a strong focus on international education.
Ambassador Edirisinghe during her address, spoke on the theme “The Strong Relationship between Sri Lanka and Thailand: Historical Ties and Future Prospects” and “Opportunities in Sri Lanka – Thailand Relations in the Era of Global Connectivity.” She highlighted the deep-rooted historical connections between the two countries, dating back centuries, and emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral ties in the modern era.
The Ambassador also elaborated on the opportunities available for collaboration in areas such as trade, tourism, investment, and cultural exchanges.
Around 60 students from various academic backgrounds participated in the event, engaging in an interactive session with the Ambassador. The students expressed keen interest in understanding the evolving bilateral relations.
