Sri Lanka–Thailand Medical Partnership to Deliver 71 Free Knee Surgeries
A special Buddhist fundraising event was held in support of a landmark humanitarian medical initiative aimed at enhancing access to orthopedic care in Sri Lanka.
15 Sri Lankans Rescued from Cybercrime Centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar to be Repatriated on 07 May 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in close coordination with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, has successfully facilitated the rescue of 15 Sri Lankan nationals who had been trafficked and forcibly employed in cybercrime centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar on 06th May 2025. The rescued individuals are scheduled to be repatriated to Sri Lanka on 07 May 2025.
The Buddhists in Sri Lanka, together with fellow Buddhist brethren the world over, celebrate the Vesak, their supreme religious festival, with much religious fervour and enthusiasm. Since ancient times, it has been the practice to spend the period of Vesak indulging in religious observances with the fervent veneration of the Buddha.
This year, like the rest of the world Buddhist community, we too have to perform the religious practices of Vesak in the backdrop of a virus pandemic threatening the entire human race. Such calamities are not very rare in the human history. During the lifetime of the Buddha, the Visala Mahanuwara of Dambadiva was threatened by three fears. It was ended when a recitation of Buddhist stanzas was conducted as discoursed by the Buddha. I am confident that we too could attain physical and spiritual health by practicing the teachings of the Buddha during this season of Vesak.
We have the blessings and the guidance of the venerable Mahasangha to conduct the State Vesak Festival by using electronic technology. Hence, we can perform religious practices at our homes with utmost devotion to the Buddha.
“Thancha kamman kathan sadhu – Yan kathwa nanuthappaththi
Yassa pathitho sumano – Vipakan patisevani”
The above stanza in Dhammapada says, “It’s not good, the doing of the deed that, once it’s done, you regret, whose result you reap crying, your face in tears. It’s good, the doing of the deed that, once it’s done, you don’t regret, whose result you reap gratified, happy at heart.” On this day of Vesak we can take the righteous path by not doing deeds that you regret as the Buddha advised.
At this time of calamity, let us determine to save the people and the country by practicing the teachings of the Buddha and adhering to the corona prevention measures. I wish this Vesak festival leads to health and spiritual bliss of the people of Sri Lanka as well as the people all over the world.

වෙසක් පුන් පොහෝ දින පණිවිඩය.
අසිරිමත් සම්බුදු තෙමඟුල සමරන වෙසක් පුන් පොහෝ දිනය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවාසී මෙන්ම ලෝකවාසී සමස්ත බෞද්ධ ජනතාවගේ අති උතුම් ආගමික මංගල්‍යය සලකුණු කරයි. අප රටේ බොදු සැදැහැවත්හු අනාදිමත් කාලයක සිට බුද්ධාලම්භන ප්‍රීතියෙන් යුතුව, ආමිස ප්‍රතිපත්ති පූජාවන්හි නිරත වෙමින් වෙසක් සමය ගත කරති.
ලොව පුරා බොදුනුවනට සේම අපටද මෙවර වෙසක් උළෙල නිමිත්තෙන් වත් පිළිවෙත් පිරීමට සිදුව ඇත්තේ මානව සංහතියම බරපතල වසංගතයකට මුහුණ පා ඇති මොහොතකය. මෙබඳු විපත් මිනිස් ඉතිහාසයේ විරල නැත. බුදුන් වහන්සේ ජීවමානව වැඩ සිටි සමයේ දඹදිව විසාලාමහනුවර තුන්බියකින් ඇලලී ගියේය. උන්වහන්සේගේ අනුශාසනා පරිදි කළ පරිත්‍රාණ දේශනයෙන් ව්‍යසනය දුරු විය. බුදු දහමේ උගන්වන ප්‍රතිපදාවන් අනුගමනය කරමින් අපටද මේ වෙසක් සමයේ නිරෝගී සුවය සහ ආධ්‍යාත්මික සහනය අත්කර ගත හැකි බව මට විශ්වාසය.
පවතින තත්වය හමුවේ රාජ්‍ය වෙසක් උත්සවය විද්‍යුත් තාක්ෂණය උපයෝගී කර ගනිමින් පැවැත්වීමට මහා සංඝරත්නයේ මගපෙන්වීම සහ ආශිර්වාදය ලැබී තිබේ. එබැවින් නිවසේ සිට සම්මා සම්බුදු රජාණන්වහන්සේ කෙරෙහි උපන් ශ්‍රද්ධාවෙන් යුතුව ආගමික වතාවත්හි නිරතවීමට අපට පිළිවන.
“තං ච කම්මං කතං සාධු – යං කත්වා නානුතපප්ති
යස්ස පතීතො සුමනො – විපාකං පටිසෙවති”
“යම් ක්‍රියාවක් කොට පසුතැවිල්ලට පත් නොවේ ද, යම් ක්‍රියාවකගේ විපාකය ප්‍රීතියෙන් හා සතුටින් යුක්තව විඳින්නේ ද, ඒ ක්‍රියාව සිදු කිරීම යෙහෙකි” යනුවෙන් ධම්මපදයේ එන ඉහත ගාථාවෙන් කියැවෙයි. මේ වෙසක් සමයෙහි බුදුන් වහන්සේ දේශනා කළ පරිදි පසුතැවිල්ලට හේතු වන දේ නොකිරීමෙන් අපේ ඉදිරිමග යහපත්ව සකසා ගත හැකිය.
මේ ආපදාපන්න මොහොතේ බොදු වත් පිළිවෙත් සේම කොරෝනා නිවාරණ පිළිවෙත්ද පිළිපදිමින් රටත් ජනතාවත් සුවපත් කිරීමට අධිෂ්ඨාන කර ගනිමු. මෙවර වෙසක් මංගල්‍යය ශ්‍රී ලංකා වාසීන්ගේත්, ලෝවැසි ජනයාගෙත් නිදුක් නිරෝගී දිවියට හා ආධ්‍යාත්මික සැපතට හේතු වේවායි මම ප්‍රාර්ථනා කරමි.

புனித வெசாக் நோன்மதி தினச் செய்தி
உலகெங்கிலும் வாழும் பௌத்த மக்களுடன் இணைந்து இலங்கை வாழ் பௌத்தர்களும் பௌத்த சமயத்தின் அதி உன்னத சமய விழாவான வெசாக் பண்டிகையை மிகுந்த சமயப் பற்றுடன் கொண்டாடுகின்றனர். எமது நாட்டில் பௌத்த சமயத்தவர்கள் பண்டைய காலம் முதல் புத்த பெருமான் மீதான பக்தியுடன் புண்ணிய கிரியைகளில் ஈடுபட்டு வெசாக் பண்டிகைக் காலத்தை கழிக்கும் வழமை இருந்து வருகின்றது.
முழு மனித சமூகத்தையும் நோய்த்தொற்று அச்சுறுத்திக்கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒரு சூழ்நிலையிலேயே உலகெங்கிலும் வாழும் பௌத்தர்களை போன்று நாமும் இம்முறை வெசாக் பண்டிகையின் சமய சம்பிரதாயங்களை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டியுள்ளது. இத்தகைய அனர்த்தங்கள் மனித வரலாற்றில் ஏற்படுவது மிக அரிதானவையல்ல. புத்த பெருமான் உயிர் வாழ்ந்த காலத்தில் தம்பதிவை விஷாலா நகரம் முப்பெரும் அச்ச சூழ்நிலைகளுக்கு உட்பட்டிருந்தது. புத்த பெருமானின் போதனையின் பேரில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட பிரித் பாராயணத்தின் மூலம் அவ்வணர்த்தம் முடிவுக்கு வந்தது. பௌத்த சமயம் போதிக்கும் போதனைகளை பின்பற்றி எமக்கும் இந்த வெசாக் காலத்தில் உடல் மற்றும் ஆன்மீக ஆரோக்கியத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ள முடியும் என்பது எனது நம்பிக்கையாகும்.
தற்போதைய நிலையில் அரச வெசாக் பண்டிகையை இலத்திரனியல் தொழிநுட்பத்தை பயன்படுத்தி நடத்துவதற்கு மகாசங்கத்தினரின் வழிகாட்டலும் ஆசிர்வாதமும் கிடைக்கப்பெற்றுள்ளது. எனவே வீடுகளில் இருந்து புத்த பெருமான் மீதான பக்தியுணர்வுடன் சமயக் கிரியைகளில் ஈடுபட எமக்கு முடியும்.

‘தீய காரியங்களைச் செய்தவர், தாம் செய்த கர்மங்களுக்காக ஏங்குகிறார்கள். அதன் பயனைக் கண்ணீர் ததும்பும் முகத்துடன் அழுதுகொண்டே அனுபவிக்கிறார்கள். நல்ல காரியங்களைச் செய்தவர், தாம் செய்த நல்ல காரியத்திற்காக ஏங்கித் தவிப்பதில்லை அதன் பயனை இன்பமாகவும் உவகையுடனும் அனுபவிக்கிறார்கள்.’ என தம்மபதத்தில் குறிப்பிடப்படுகின்றது. இந்த வெசாக் காலத்தில் புத்த பெருமான் போதித்த படி, பின்னால் வருந்துவதற்கு காரணமாக அமைகின்ற விடயங்களை செய்யாது எமது முன்னோக்கிய பயணத்தை சிறந்ததாக அமைத்துக்கொள்ள முடியும்.
இந்த அனர்த்த சூழ்நிலையில் புத்தபெருமானின் போதனைகளை நடைமுறைப்படுத்தியும் கொரோனா தடுப்பு அறிவுறைகளை பின்பற்றியும் நாட்டையும் மக்களையும் குணப்படுத்துவதற்கு உறுதிகொள்வோம். இம்முறை வெசாக் பண்டிகை இலங்கையர்களுக்கும், உலக மக்களுக்கும் நோய்நொடியில்லாத வாழ்க்கைக்கும் ஆன்மீக உயர்;வுக்கும் காரணமாக அமையட்டும் என பிரார்த்திக்கின்றேன்.
