Sri Lanka showcased strong commitment to sustainable financing at the Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development held in Bangkok.
The Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development was held from 19-21 November 2025 at the Unite Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The Session was opened by Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). During the opening session, special remarks were made by H.E. Ahmed Mazin, Minister of State for
Finance and Planning of Maldives, Mr. Benjarong Suwankiri, Vice-Minister of Finance of Thailand and the Secretary-General of UNCTAD. The meeting brought together key member States,
including Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Türkiye, the United States of America, and Viet Nam, reflecting strong regional engagement in advancing inclusive and sustainable development financing.
Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Hosts “Sri Lanka: Your Next Best Destination”, Tourism Promotional Evening, to Mark the 70th Anniversary of Sri Lanka–Thailand Diplomatic Relations
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Sri Lankan Airlines, organized “Sri Lanka: Your Next Best Destination”, Tourism Promotional Evening, on 24 November 2025 at the Avani Riverside Hotel, Bangkok, to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Traditional Sri Lankan Kandiyan attire made with Thai silk was featured at a Grand Fashion Extravaganza organized by the Thai Government to coincide with the National Day of Thailand. This year, the 10th celebration of Silk, ‘Thai Silk Road to the World 2020’, event had 100 countries participating in the fashion show with the Heads of Diplomatic Missions including Sri Lanka and Consuls based in Bangkok, sashaying in specially designed creations from each country.
In keeping with the new normal due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, the designs were created by the fashion design students of vocational colleges around Thailand, in consultation with the fashion designers of participating countries via online platforms.
Renowned Sri Lankan fashion designer Darshi Keerthisena, the Creative Director of Buddhi Batiks provided consultation to the fashion design students of Pattani Vocational School to design the Sri Lankan outfit- A Kandyan Osari of hand woven Thai silk and embroidery. The jewelry that mimics Sri Lankan ‘Agasti’, necklace and bangle were also provided by Thai jewelry designers. A number of local and foreign media, international design houses, representatives of luxury brands, fashion designers, merchandisers and travel agents participated at the event officiated by Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan –o-cha together with a number of high level dignitaries at the Royal Thai navy convention center. The Fashion show and the grand finale also provided an excellent opportunity to promote Sri Lanka as a travel destination through a promotional video. The event was webcast live on Facebook.
