Ambassador of Sri Lanka Participates in the 15th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka & Permanent Representative to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe represented in the 15th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World, held at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall in Bangkok, together with her spouse and two daughters. The family proudly showcased costumes inspired by traditional Sri Lankan attire and crafted from Thai silk by students of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka through a creative fusion with Thailand’s renowned silk craftsmanship.
Sri Lanka Illuminate Bangkok with the Spirit of Vesak at Historic Wat Pho
In a solemn and spiritually uplifting celebration of the International Day of Vesak 2026, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka together with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Nepal in Bangkok jointly hosted a special commemorative event on 28 May 2026 at the iconic Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan (Wat Pho), one of Thailand’s most sacred and historically significant Buddhist temples.
In honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother’s 90th birthday, the Office of the Permanent Secretary, the Prime Minister’s Office, in collaboration with the Association of Thai Culture and Promotions, recently co-hosted the “3rd International Thai Silk Fashion Week”, the biggest fashion extravaganza in Thailand, at Royal Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon, Bangkok.
Inaguaring the Fashion show the Deputy Prime Minister Professor Dr. Wisanu Krua-ngam stated that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his Government considers the Thai Silk Fashion Show as an opportunity to promote cross-cultural exchanges and enhance multilateral relationships with other countries through Thai silk, an important legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
Sri Lanka Embassy & Permanent Mission in Bangkok made arrangements for the Sri Lanka’s participation by Darshi Keerthisena, Sri Lankan Creative Director of Buddhi Batiks for featuring her eye catching and glamours batik designs on Thai silks and Sri Lankan Airlines was one of the sponsors.
Fashion designers from 60 countries showcased the collection of traditional and contemporary out fits made using Thai silk during their solo or joint fashion shows, which made live on “Fashion TV”.
World’s most renowned fashion designers, such as Jimmy Choo, Rocco Barocco and Danha Kim were among the participants. Some of them joined the judging panel and exchanged fashion inspirations with fashion students.
The event drew at least 10,000 visitors per day, including diplomatic corp, local and foreign media, international design houses, representatives of luxury brands, fashion designers, merchandisers, travel agents, etc.
Spouse of the Sri Lanka Ambassador Stephen Senanayake, was a member of the Organizing Committee of the “3rd International Thai Silk Fashion Week”, which was consisted with the Heads of Mission and their Spouses of the Diplomatic Corp based in Bangkok, who associated with Founder of the Association of Thai Silk Promotions Edward Kiti for the success of the event.
