Sri Lanka showcased strong commitment to sustainable financing at the Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development held in Bangkok.

The Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development was held from 19-21 November 2025 at the Unite Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The Session was opened by Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). During the opening session, special remarks were made by H.E. Ahmed Mazin, Minister of State for
Finance and Planning of Maldives, Mr. Benjarong Suwankiri, Vice-Minister of Finance of Thailand and the Secretary-General of UNCTAD. The meeting brought together key member States,
including Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Türkiye, the United States of America, and Viet Nam, reflecting strong regional engagement in advancing inclusive and sustainable development financing.

Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Hosts “Sri Lanka: Your Next Best Destination”, Tourism Promotional Evening, to Mark the 70th Anniversary of Sri Lanka–Thailand Diplomatic Relations

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Sri Lankan Airlines, organized “Sri Lanka: Your Next Best Destination”, Tourism Promotional Evening, on 24 November 2025 at the Avani Riverside Hotel, Bangkok, to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The Lord Buddha’s relics from Malwatta Temple in Kandy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, to be enshrined at Phra Maha Chedi Phra Upali Maha Mongkol, Wat Rai Khing the Royal Temple.

On Friday 8 October 2021, at 1300 hrs, Somdet Phra Maha Rajamongkonmuni, Councilor of Sangha Supreme Council and Chief Superintendent of the Central Sector attended as the President of the enshrinement ceremony of the Buddha’s relics, Luang Pho Wat Rai Khing statue, Phra Sri Sakaya Tossapalayana statue, Sukhothai Buddha image in pacifying the ocean posture onto the directional arches of Phra Upali Maha Mongkol Stupa and the ceremony of casting the statue of Luang Pho Wat Rai Khing (lap size of 32 inches) on the occasion of 99th anniversary of Phra Upali Kunupamachan, (Panya Inthapanyamahathera), former Abbot of Wat Rai Khing the Royal Temple, and former advisor of the Ecclesiastical Regional Governor of Region 18, presented at multipurpose hall in front of Phra Upali Mahamongkon Stupa, Wat Rai Khing the Royal Temple, Nakhon Pathom Province.

In addition, Mr. Surasak Charoensirichot, Governor of Nakhon Pathom Province, and H.E. Mrs. Colonne Appuhamillage Chaminda Inoka Colonne, Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Thailand jointly installed the Buddha’s relics from Malwatta Temple, Kandy city of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka onto the 2nd floor of Phra Maha Chedi Phra Upali Mahamongkon.

On this occasion, Mr. Siborwan Kaewngam, Deputy Director and Acting Director of the National Office of Buddhism together with executive committee and officials of the National Office of Buddhism participated in the ceremony as well.
