15 Sri Lankans Rescued from Cybercrime Centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar to be Repatriated on 07 May 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in close coordination with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, has successfully facilitated the rescue of 15 Sri Lankan nationals who had been trafficked and forcibly employed in cybercrime centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar on 06th May 2025. The rescued individuals are scheduled to be repatriated to Sri Lanka on 07 May 2025.

Ambassador-designate Wijayanthi Edirisinghe engaged in a discussion recently, with representatives from Azend Technologies Pvt Ltd., a Sri Lankan IT and software consulting firm, to explore opportunities for expanding their global footprint into Thailand. The discussions centered on leveraging Thailand’s robust agricultural sector, recognizing the potential for growth in the Agritech domain and funding opportunities and seeking potential for Sri Lanka’s IT sector development.
Azend Technologies, by entering the Thai market, aims to tap into Thailand’s strong agricultural base by bringing innovative IT solutions to enhance productivity and efficiency in the sector. This collaboration aligns with the broader goal of promoting the Sri Lankan IT sector in international markets, contributing to economic growth and technological advancement.
