Ambassador of Sri Lanka Participates in the 15th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka & Permanent Representative to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe represented in the 15th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World, held at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall in Bangkok, together with her spouse and two daughters. The family proudly showcased costumes inspired by traditional Sri Lankan attire and crafted from Thai silk by students of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka through a creative fusion with Thailand’s renowned silk craftsmanship.
Sri Lanka Illuminate Bangkok with the Spirit of Vesak at Historic Wat Pho
In a solemn and spiritually uplifting celebration of the International Day of Vesak 2026, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka together with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Nepal in Bangkok jointly hosted a special commemorative event on 28 May 2026 at the iconic Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan (Wat Pho), one of Thailand’s most sacred and historically significant Buddhist temples.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe hosted a warm and vibrant reception at the Ambassador’s Residence in celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, bringing together members of the Sri Lankan community residing in Bangkok.
The event was graced by Hon. Dr. Upali Pannilage, Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment of Sri Lanka, who attended as the Chief Guest during his official visit to Bangkok. His presence added special significance to the occasion and provided an opportunity for cordial interaction with the Sri Lankan community.
Guests were treated to a rich display of Sri Lankan culture and hospitality. A beautifully arranged table of traditional Sri Lankan sweetmeats delighted attendees, while an array of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine including freshly prepared hoppers, kottu, and savoury cutlets was served, offering a taste of home.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, a few traditional Avurudu (Sinhala and Tamil New Year) games were organized, creating an engaging and nostalgic experience for participants of all ages and fostering a strong sense of community spirit.
The celebration concluded with a traditional Sri Lankan dinner featuring a wide selection of dishes prepared in authentic Sri Lankan style, reflecting the island’s diverse culinary heritage.
The event reflected the Embassy’s continued commitment to promoting Sri Lankan culture and strengthening community bonds among Sri Lankans residing in Thailand.
