Strengthening Buddhist Heritage Diplomacy: Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Thailand Delivers a Lecture at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to UNESCAP in Bangkok, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, was invited to deliver a lecture on “Guardians of the Dhamma: The Role of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Anagarika Dharmapala’s Pioneering Efforts to Preserve Buddhagaya” at the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, one of Thailand’s foremost centres of Buddhist higher education on 17 March 2026.
Ambassador Hosts Ms. Sri Lanka 2025 to Promote Cultural and Creative Collaboration Between Sri Lanka and Thailand
The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently hosted Ms. Sri Lanka 2025, Prathiba Liyanarachchi, at the Official Residence of the Ambassador in Bangkok. The meeting was attended by members of the Embassy staff and several Sri Lankan ladies residing in Thailand.
At the invitation of Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, C. A. Chaminda I. Colonne joined a programme on Diplomacy and International Partnership on Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, which was inaugurated by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Prof. Dr. Siriruek Songsiwilai, at the Northern Science Park, Chiang Mai Province on 23 June 2022. President of Chiang Mai University Clinical Professor Niwes Nantachit, M.D welcomed the invitees. A visit to the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand NARIT and briefing by its’ Executive Director Dr. Saran Poshyachinda, also included in the programme.
The event provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and learn about the international cooperation policy, tasks of Thai Government agencies and to build a network of national cooperation and international cooperation. Diplomatic Corp from more than 30 countries in Thailand, senior Government officials and representatives from 120 partner agencies joined the event.
The operation of Science Diplomacy policy is one of the important mechanisms to further develop economic growth and sustainable development of Thailand. Spouse of the Ambassador, Stephen Senanayake and First Secretary A.W. S. Samanmali of the Mission accompanied the Ambassador during the visit.
