High demand in Bangkok for Sri Lanka’s unique traditional products
Strengthening Buddhist Heritage Diplomacy: Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Thailand Delivers a Lecture at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to UNESCAP in Bangkok, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, was invited to deliver a lecture on “Guardians of the Dhamma: The Role of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Anagarika Dharmapala’s Pioneering Efforts to Preserve Buddhagaya” at the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, one of Thailand’s foremost centres of Buddhist higher education on 17 March 2026.
Ambassador Hosts Ms. Sri Lanka 2025 to Promote Cultural and Creative Collaboration Between Sri Lanka and Thailand
The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently hosted Ms. Sri Lanka 2025, Prathiba Liyanarachchi, at the Official Residence of the Ambassador in Bangkok. The meeting was attended by members of the Embassy staff and several Sri Lankan ladies residing in Thailand.
The program was organized by the Thai Red Cross Society of Thailand’s Spouses of Heads of Mission, which offered a hybrid, charity-based business experience through the dpcredcrossbazaar.com website . The fair was officially opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindon of the Kingdom of Thailand on 03 March 2022 at the Royal Paragon Hall in Siam Paragon, Bangkok.
Runcrisp Marketing (Pvt.) Co., d. N. Interior Designs (Pvt.) Company, Greens Flower Designs (Pvt.) Company under Osmee Products (Pvt.) Company, Suravi Holdings (Pvt.) Company, Aromatic Global (Pvt.) Company, Benzerlink Spice Export (Pvt.) Company, Novas Products (Pvt.) Company, D. P. Global Ventures (Pvt.) Co., Ltd. M. Spices, Ceylon Curry Products (Pvt.) and many other small and medium enterprises and members of the National Crafts Council participated in this hybrid program representing Sri Lanka. Global Premium Wine Company (Dilma Tea), K Square Company of Thailand, Euro- Scan Exports (Private) Company, Mlesna (Lanka) Company also participated in the event.
After the opening ceremony, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand and Permanent Representative of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) C.A. Charminda I. Mrs Kolonne and her husband Mr Stephen Senanayake welcomed Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindon at the Sri Lanka Pavilion, where she was presented with a traditional silver-plated pagoda designed by the Sri Lanka National Craft Council. The ambassador spoke about Sri Lanka’s unique spices and handicrafts. Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindon was impressed by the excellence embodied in Sri Lankan products.
Ceylon spices such as cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, curry powder as well as traditional handicrafts, batik, brass, clay and wood products, delicious snacks, dry fruits and vegetables and flowers are in great demand. Prior to this fair, in a press conference held on February 21, 2022, the Embassy made several presentations to the Thai media about Sri Lankan products. Furthermore, these products were introduced to the local and foreign community in Bangkok.
The fair, which was held from 03-06 March 2022 with the participation of 53 countries, consisted of 220 stalls, of which 176 stalls belonged to foreign embassies. These fairs attracted more than 21699 visitors. More than 88 exhibitors representing embassies, projects initiated under royal approval, private companies as well as the Thai Red Cross Souvenir Shop participated in the event online.
Under the guidance of Ambassador Kolonne and her husband, Mrs. Kumudini Gunasekara, Chairman of the Spices and Related Products Marketing Board, Suresh D., Chairman of the Export Development Board. Due to the collective efforts of Mr. De Mel, Chairman of the National Craft Council, Mr. Sampath Erahapola, Mr. Taraka Galahitiyawa, Manager of SriLankan Airlines in Thailand, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Mrs. Saritha Ranatunga, First Secretary, and the staff of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Bangkok, Sri Lanka successfully It was possible to participate in this fair.
