The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to UNESCAP in Bangkok, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, was invited to deliver a lecture on “Guardians of the Dhamma: The Role of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Anagarika Dharmapala’s Pioneering Efforts to Preserve Buddhagaya” at the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, one of Thailand’s foremost centres of Buddhist higher education on 17 March 2026.
Ambassador Hosts Ms. Sri Lanka 2025 to Promote Cultural and Creative Collaboration Between Sri Lanka and Thailand
The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently hosted Ms. Sri Lanka 2025, Prathiba Liyanarachchi, at the Official Residence of the Ambassador in Bangkok. The meeting was attended by members of the Embassy staff and several Sri Lankan ladies residing in Thailand.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Thailand organized a Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Event at Radisson Suites Bangkok Sukhumvit, Bangkok, on 14 February 2025, bringing together over 60 members of Thailand’s travel trade fraternity to strengthen tourism ties between the two countries.
Leading Sri Lankan travel companies, Esna Holidays, Jetwing Travels and Sri Lanka Trip Advisor, participated in the event, engaging with Thai travel agents and tour operators to promote Sri Lanka as a preferred travel destination. As part of the event highlights, Esna Holidays and Jetwing Travels sponsored hotel package giveaways for guests through an exciting raffle draw.
Adding a vibrant cultural touch to the evening, the Sri Lanka Air Force Dance Troupe captivated the audience with a mesmerizing traditional Sri Lankan dance performance, showcasing the island’s rich artistic heritage.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, in her welcome remarks, emphasized the significance of the event, stating that it is a timely opportunity to enhance collaboration between the two nations in the tourism sector, especially as Sri Lanka is booming as one of the best tourist destinations, attracting international visitors with its diverse natural beauty, wildlife, historical monuments, and rich culture.
Ambassador Edirisinghe further highlighted Sri Lanka’s remarkable tourism recovery, noting that the country welcomed 2.05 million international tourists in 2024. Ambassador Edirisinghe also expressed her delight that the two-millionth tourist to Sri Lanka was from Thailand, symbolizing the growing interest of Thai travelers in Sri Lanka’s diverse tourism offerings.
The event successfully strengthened partnerships between the Sri Lankan and Thai travel industries, reinforcing Sri Lanka’s position as a premier destination for Thai travelers.
