Strengthening Buddhist Heritage Diplomacy: Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Thailand Delivers a Lecture at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to UNESCAP in Bangkok, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, was invited to deliver a lecture on “Guardians of the Dhamma: The Role of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Anagarika Dharmapala’s Pioneering Efforts to Preserve Buddhagaya” at the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, one of Thailand’s foremost centres of Buddhist higher education on 17 March 2026.

The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently hosted Ms. Sri Lanka 2025, Prathiba Liyanarachchi, at the Official Residence of the Ambassador in Bangkok. The meeting was attended by members of the Embassy staff and several Sri Lankan ladies residing in Thailand.
Sri Lanka has been added to the list of countries and territories permitted to enter the Kingdom of Thailand without quarantine; (TEST & GO):
Sri Lanka has been added to the List of countries and territories permitted to enter the Kingdom of Thailand for Individuals under category (13); “Individuals who have been granted permission to enter the Kingdom of Thailand for the benefit of the economy in conjunction with public health security measures and the Government’s plan to reopen the country” . Accordingly, fully vaccinated travelers from 63 countries/territories including Sri Lanka where travelers must have stayed for 21 days or more and arriving in Thailand by air are exempted from quarantine if Day 1 PCR test is negative.

Fully vaccinated travelers to enter into Thailand under ‘Sandbox’ tourism programme, Living in the Blue Zone (17 Sandbox Destinations):
Fully vaccinated travelers from any country arriving in Thailand by air are eligible under ‘Sandbox’ programme and need to stay first 7 nights at SHA+ accommodation ( Safety and Health Administration) within one of the 17 Blue Zone Sandbox destinations if planning to continue the journey to other destinations in Thailand.

Travelers who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated should undergo;
10-day quarantine for air and sea arrivals
14-day quarantine for land arrivals.

With effect from 1 November 2021, issuance of Certificate of Entry (COE) to Thailand will be replaced by ‘Thailand Pass’ system. Travelers should register online at https://tp.consular.go.th/ and obtain Thailand Pass QR Code to present to Airlines and Thai Border Control Officials. COE approved before 1 November 2021 remains valid to enter Thailand.
