Strengthening Buddhist Heritage Diplomacy: Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Thailand Delivers a Lecture at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to UNESCAP in Bangkok, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, was invited to deliver a lecture on “Guardians of the Dhamma: The Role of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Anagarika Dharmapala’s Pioneering Efforts to Preserve Buddhagaya” at the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, one of Thailand’s foremost centres of Buddhist higher education on 17 March 2026.
Ambassador Hosts Ms. Sri Lanka 2025 to Promote Cultural and Creative Collaboration Between Sri Lanka and Thailand
The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently hosted Ms. Sri Lanka 2025, Prathiba Liyanarachchi, at the Official Residence of the Ambassador in Bangkok. The meeting was attended by members of the Embassy staff and several Sri Lankan ladies residing in Thailand.
The cultural troupe of the Sri Lanka Army led by Cpt. Ajith Ruwanpura performed at the opening ceremony of the TITF and also at the Sri Lankan booth showcasing their vibrant and colorful dancing and drumming items, attracting more visitors to the Sri Lankan pavilion. Ceylon Tea and a taste of Sri Lankan cuisine offered at the booth made it more appealing to the crowds visiting the booth, while getting awareness on Sri Lanka, as an interesting and ‘must visit’ destination, where a rich array of attractions are in offer that suits to each and every one.
The beautifully decorated Sri Lanka pavilion was ceremonially opened by H.E. (Mrs.) Samantha K. Jayasuriya, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand on 16th January 2020, and Mr. Thanapol Cheewarattanaporn, President of Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA), representatives from the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), Ms. Shirani Herath, Junior Manager of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) responsible for Thailand, Mr. Anil Sirimanna, First Secretary (Commerce) of the Embassy and Mr. Riza Yusoof, Manager of the SriLankan Airlines in Bangkok, and the participating Sri Lankan tour agents joined in the opening of the Sri Lankan pavilion by lighting the traditional oil lamp amidst the rhythms of the ‘magulbera’.
Jetwing Travels , Ya Tours, Nawamini Travels, Karusan Travels, Ayubowan Tours & Travels, Red Apple Travel & Holidays, Aitken Spence Travels, Ceylon Tours, Jagath Tours, Savari Travels, NKAR Travels & Daya Holidays Pvt Ltd participated from Sri Lanka at the TITF 2020 which the largest tour fair in Thailand that promotes a wide range of tourism products and related services, drawing approximately 400,000 visitors, including tour operators, travel agents, hoteliers, media and consumers.
