The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka promoted Sri Lankan products at the Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) Global Sourcing Expo 2024
Sri Lanka showcased strong commitment to sustainable financing at the Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development held in Bangkok.
The Fifth Session of the Committee on Macroeconomic Policy, Poverty Reduction and Financing for Development was held from 19-21 November 2025 at the Unite Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The Session was opened by Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). During the opening session, special remarks were made by H.E. Ahmed Mazin, Minister of State for
Finance and Planning of Maldives, Mr. Benjarong Suwankiri, Vice-Minister of Finance of Thailand and the Secretary-General of UNCTAD. The meeting brought together key member States,
including Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Türkiye, the United States of America, and Viet Nam, reflecting strong regional engagement in advancing inclusive and sustainable development financing.
Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Hosts “Sri Lanka: Your Next Best Destination”, Tourism Promotional Evening, to Mark the 70th Anniversary of Sri Lanka–Thailand Diplomatic Relations
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Sri Lankan Airlines, organized “Sri Lanka: Your Next Best Destination”, Tourism Promotional Evening, on 24 November 2025 at the Avani Riverside Hotel, Bangkok, to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Expanding Sri Lanka’s export basket to Thailand, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, introduced the National Crafts Council of Sri Lanka and prominent Sri Lankan businessmen to CP Group which owns renowned retail chains, Lotus’s, Macro and Seven Eleven in Thailand.
The CP Group Global Sourcing Expo was held at the Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel, providing a dynamic platform for international businesspeople and food producers to network, showcase their products and negotiate business deals with CP Foods and CP Group partners, including leading restaurant operators, hotels, and food service businesses both domestically and internationally. The goal was to offer Thai people access to high-quality food from around the world and to promote Thailand as a world food center.
The National Crafts Council of Sri Lanka, Eswaran Brothers Export (Pvt) Ltd, Excellensa Impex (Pvt) Ltd, Worga Naturals (Pvt) Ltd and Thevmika Traders showcased Ceylon tea, Handicrafts, Ceylon Cinnamon, King Coconut Water, Spices, Food items such as Sauces, Woodapple Jam, Mango Chutney, Mustard Cream, Cashew, Pickles etc. capturing the attention of attendees at the Expo.
A Tea Tasting Session was also organised by Eswaran Brothers Export (Pvt) Ltd at the Expo which provided an engaging and sensory experience for the visitors, further enhancing the appeal of Ceylon Tea.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, C. A. Chaminda I. Colonne, Chairman of Executive Committee of CP Foods PCL, Adirek Sripratak, Chief Executive Officer of CP Foods PCL, Prasit Boondoungprasert, International Sourcing Director, CPF Global Food Solution PCL, Pierre Nicou and many of their senior representatives from CP Group supermarkets, CP Group food service, CP Group factories, CP Group Convenience stores, CP Group quick service restaurants, CP Group pet food, Global hotel groups, Airlines and Food production factories joined the event.
Ambassadors of Sri Lanka, Argentina, Australia, Ireland, Japan, Poland, New Zealand, Spain and the Director General of the Department of American and Pacific Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Chettaphan Maksamphan, joined the inauguration of CP Group Global Sourcing Expo.
During the inauguration, Chief Executive Officer of CP Foods PCL, Prasit Boondoungprasert, stated, that they initiated this Business Matching event to promote the growth of SMEs in the countries where CP Group operates, while also giving Thai entrepreneurs, such as restaurants, access to a wider variety of products, offering new choices for the Thai food industry.
