15 Sri Lankans Rescued from Cybercrime Centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar to be Repatriated on 07 May 2025

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, in close coordination with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, has successfully facilitated the rescue of 15 Sri Lankan nationals who had been trafficked and forcibly employed in cybercrime centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar on 06th May 2025. The rescued individuals are scheduled to be repatriated to Sri Lanka on 07 May 2025.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka & Permanent Representative to UNESCAP presided over the Sri Lanka novice ordination Ceremony conducted by Pharabhavan Khemkhun Wi, Abbot of Wat Mahayong, as preceptor to honour and offer Royal merit to His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej Phra Vajra Klao Chao Yu Hua of the Kingdom of Thailand on 28th June 2022 at Ubosot of Wat Mahayong, Phra Nakhon, Sri Ayuthaya. The ten Sri Lankan ordinated novices will study and practice the Dhamma until they reach 20 years. Thereafter, they will be ordinated as monks who continue their studies, practice and propagate Dhamma in future.
