Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Meets with UNODC Regional Representative to Address Transboundary Human Trafficking Issues

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe met with the UNODC Regional Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Masood Karimipour on 09 th January 2025, to discuss the pressing issue of emerging transboundary human trafficking challenges in the region. Regional Representative was accompanied by Rebecca Miller, Regional Programme Coordinator for Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling. The First Secretary and the Head of Chancery A.W. S Samanmali also joined the discussion.

URGENT and IMPORTANT TO ALL AIRLINES This is to inform all online and offline carriers that all international Airports in Sri Lanka will not permit disembarking passengers into Sri Lanka with effect from 2359hrs on 21 May 2021 (local time in Sri Lanka) until 2359hrs on 31 May 2021 (local time in Sri Lanka) with a view to control the Covid-19 situation in the Country. During the above mentioned restricted period the following will be permitted: 1. Aircraft Departures with passengers originating from BIA/MRIA. 2. Aircraft Emergency Diversions to BIA/MRIA. 3. Freighter Operations and humanitarian flights to BIA/MRIA. 4. Technical landings at BIA/MRIA. 5. Inbound ferry flights (without passengers) at BIA/MRIA. 6. Passengers transiting at BIA/HRIA for less than 12 hours with a confirmed ticket destined to an onward destination. Airlines are strictly instructed to follow the above instructions.
