Ambassador of Sri Lanka Honoured with the Distinguished Dhamma Award at the Ceremony of the Overseas Dhammaduta Bhikkhus Training Programme in Thailand
The Certificate Conferment Ceremony of the Overseas Dhammaduta Bhikkhus Training Programme Class 32, Dhammaduta Certificate Programme Class 3, and Vipassana Meditation Certificate Programme (International Programme) Class 2 was held on 4 June 2026 at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, in Thailand. During the ceremony, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, H.E. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe was honoured with the Distinguished Dhamma Award in recognition of her contribution and support towards the promotion of Buddhist relations and cooperation.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka & Permanent Representative to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe represented in the 15th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World, held at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall in Bangkok, together with her spouse and two daughters. The family proudly showcased costumes inspired by traditional Sri Lankan attire and crafted from Thai silk by students of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka through a creative fusion with Thailand’s renowned silk craftsmanship.

ශිව දෙවිඳුන්ගේ ආලෝක කදම්භයෙන් මෝහාන්ධකාරය දුරුකොට, ප්රඥා මහිමය අත්කර ගැනීමේ ප්රාර්ථනය පෙරදැරිව, ශ්රී ලාංකේය සහ ලොව පුරා හින්දු බැතිමත්හු, අනාදිමත් කාලයක සිට මහ ශිවරාත්රී දින මහත් භක්තියෙන් යුතුව ස්වකීය ආගමික වතාවත්හි නිරත වෙති.
ලොව බලවත්ම දෙවිඳුන් ලෙස ඔවුන් පිළිගන්නා ශිව දෙවියන්ගේ ආශිර්වාදය සමාජ, ආර්ථික සහ සෞඛ්ය අභිවෘද්ධියටත්, ආධ්යාත්මික පෝෂණයටත් ප්රබල පිටිවහලක් බව හින්දූන්ගේ විශ්වාසයයි.
හින්දු සාහිත්යයේත්, ජන සමාජයේත් උත්තම දිනයක් බවට පත්ව ඇති මහ ශිවරාත්රී දින ඔවුහු නිදි වර්ජිතව, සංස්කෘතික අගයක් සහිත විවිධ වූ කාර්යයන්හි නියැලෙමින් ශිව දෙවියන්ට පූජෝපහාර කරති. එමගින් සර්ව කාලීන ආශිර්වාදය අපේක්ෂා කරති. සිත තැන්පත් කරගනිමින් භාවනානුයෝගීව මහා ශිව දෙවි ආවර්ජනය කිරීමෙන් ආත්මය සුවපත් වන බව හින්දු බැතිමත්හු අදහති.

අපේ ජන සමාජයට අමිල වටිනාකමක් එක් කළේය. බහුවිධ සාහිත්ය කලා සේම, නර්ථනයන් බිහිකිරීමට ද මේ ආගමික චාරිත්රය හේතු වී තිබේ.
පසුගිය වසරේ පැතිර ගිය කොවිඞ් වසංගතය නිසා සෞඛ්ය නීති රිතීවලට අනුගතව මහා ශිව රාත්රී දින වතාවත් කරන්නට හින්දු බැතිමතුන්ට සිදුවිය. මෙවර යම් ලිහිල් කිරීමක් ඇතත් සෞඛ්ය උපදෙස් පිළිපදමින් මහ ශිවරාත්රී දිනය සමරනු ඇතැයි යන්න අපගේ විශ්වාසයයි.
මහ ශිවරාත්රී දින පහන්සිල හින්දු ජනයාගේ ආධ්යාත්මය ආලෝකමත් කරන්නා සේම, සමස්ත සමාජය පූරා සාමය, සංහිඳියාව සහ සතුට සාක්ෂාත් කර ගැනීමට ශිව දෙවිඳුන්ගේ ආශිර්වාදය වේවා යි මම ප්රාර්ථනා කරමි.

இலங்கையிலும் உலகெங்கிலும் உள்ள இந்து பக்தர்கள் சிவபெருமானின் அருள் ஒளி கொண்டு அறியாமை இருள் அகற்றி, ஞானத்தின் மகிமையை அடைவதற்கான பிரார்த்தனையுடன், பழங்காலத்திலிருந்தே மகா சிவராத்திரி தினத்தில் மிகுந்த பக்தியுடன் சமயக் கிரியைகளில் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றனர்.
உலகின் சக்திவாய்ந்த தெய்வமாக அவர்கள் கருதும் சிவபெருமானின் ஆசீர்வாதம் சமூக, பொருளாதார சுபீட்சத்திற்கும் சிறந்த ஆரோக்கியத்திற்கும் மற்றும் ஆன்மீக வளர்ச்சிக்கும் ஒரு பலமான உந்துசக்தி என்பது இந்துக்களின் நம்பிக்கையாகும்.
இந்து சமய பக்தர்களினால் அனுஷ்டிக்கப்படும் ஒரு மகத்தான நாளான மகா சிவராத்திரி தினத்தில், அவர்கள் கண் விழித்து பல்வேறு கலாச்சார பெறுமானங்களுடன் கூடிய செயல்களில் ஈடுபட்டு சிவபெருமானுக்கு பூஜை செய்கிறார்கள். இதன் மூலம் நித்திய ஆசீர்வாதங்களை அவர்கள் எதிர்பார்க்கிறார்கள். மனதை ஒருநிலைப்படுத்தி பக்தி சிரத்தையுடன் சிவ வழிபாட்டில் ஈடுபடுவதன் மூலம் ஆன்மீக உயர்வை அடைய முடியம் என்று இந்து பக்தர்கள் நம்புகிறார்கள்.
பழங்காலத்திலிருந்தே இலங்கை வாழ் இந்துக்களின் இந்த அற்புதமான கலாச்சார விழா எமது சமூகத்திற்கு அளவிடற்கரிய பெறுமதியை சேர்த்துள்ளது. இந்த சமய நடைமுறைகள் பல்வகை கலை இலக்கிய அம்சங்களைப் போன்றே சிறந்த நடனப் பாரம்பரியத்திற்கும் வழிவகுத்துள்ளது.
கடந்த ஆண்டு கோவிட் தொற்றுநோய் பரவலின் காரணமாக, இந்து பக்தர்கள் சுகாதார விதிமுறைகளை பின்பற்றி மகா சிவராத்திரி கிரியைகளில் ஈடுபட வேண்டியிருந்தது. அந்த கட்டுப்பாடுகளில் இம்முறை சிறிது தளர்வு இருந்தாலும், கடந்த வருடத்தைப் போன்றே இவ்வருடமும் சுகாதார ஆலோசனைகளைப் பின்பற்றி மகா சிவராத்திரி தினத்தை அனுஷ்டிப்பார்கள் என்று நாம் நம்புகிறோம்.
மகா சிவராத்திரி தின தீப ஒளி இந்து மக்களின் ஆன்மீகத்தை ஒளியூட்டுவதைப் போன்றே சமூகத்தில் அமைதி, நல்லிணக்கம் மற்றும் மகிழ்ச்சியை அடைந்துகொள்வதற்கும் சிவபெருமான் அருள்புரிய வேண்டும் என்று பிரார்த்திக்கின்றேன்.

Mahashivarathri Day Message
Sri Lankan Hindus and their brethren across the globe since ancient times pay obeisance to Lord Shiva on this Mahashivarathri, with utmost reverence and expectation of dispelling darkness of ignorance and acquiring wisdom.
Hindus believe that the blessings of the Lord Shiva, who they consider as the most powerful deity of the universe, will help to achieve social and economic prosperity and good health, as well as to nurture spiritual development of the devotees.
The Mahashivarathri is the day Hindu devotees all over the world undertake a fast and offer prayers through the day and night and indulge in various cultural activities to pay homage to Lord Shiva and seek his blessings for salvation. Hindu devotees believe that by meditating and venerating Lord Shiva with a tranquil mind they could embark on the path to attain spiritual enlightenment.
Since ancient times this colourful and vibrant cultural celebration by Hindu devotees has enriched our society. These religious rituals have also paved way for multiple literary creations and numerous dancing traditions.
In the previous year, the Hindu devotees were compelled to observe and celebrate the Mahashivarathri day adhering to the health guidelines due to COVID-19 pandemic. Even though, there is some relaxation of certain restrictions, I believe that they will celebrate the Mahashivarathri day this time too adhering to the health guidelines as they did last year.
Finally, I wish as the spirit of light illuminate your life, the blessings of Lord Shiva bestow upon us to achieve our objectives of establishing peace, reconciliation and happiness in the society.
