Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Bangkok Meets with UNODC Regional Representative to Address Transboundary Human Trafficking Issues

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe met with the UNODC Regional Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Masood Karimipour on 09 th January 2025, to discuss the pressing issue of emerging transboundary human trafficking challenges in the region. Regional Representative was accompanied by Rebecca Miller, Regional Programme Coordinator for Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling. The First Secretary and the Head of Chancery A.W. S Samanmali also joined the discussion.

with the TAMAP Project of the Finance Ministry in Sri Lanka, H.E. (Mrs.) Samantha K. Jayasuriya and the Embassy staff joined for the third online meeting which was joined by Dr. Indu Bandara, Director General of the Department of Census and Statistics, Sri Lanka and the team, Dr. Nihal Atapattu, Team Leader of TAMAP Project of the Ministry of Finance to discuss on improving the quality and reliability of agricultural statistical system and techniques in gathering data in Sri Lanka. The discussion will expand incorporating all key stakeholders and explore possibilities of tapping into expertise, both bilateral and multilateral, available in Thailand. The Census and Statistics Department will soon release an important analytical report – The National Statistical Review of Sri Lanka. Glad to be part of an important work for the Sri Lankan Agricultural sector. Technical Assistance to the Modernisation of Agriculture Programme
