Strengthening Buddhist Heritage Diplomacy: Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Thailand Delivers a Lecture at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to UNESCAP in Bangkok, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, was invited to deliver a lecture on “Guardians of the Dhamma: The Role of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Anagarika Dharmapala’s Pioneering Efforts to Preserve Buddhagaya” at the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, one of Thailand’s foremost centres of Buddhist higher education on 17 March 2026.
Ambassador Hosts Ms. Sri Lanka 2025 to Promote Cultural and Creative Collaboration Between Sri Lanka and Thailand
The Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently hosted Ms. Sri Lanka 2025, Prathiba Liyanarachchi, at the Official Residence of the Ambassador in Bangkok. The meeting was attended by members of the Embassy staff and several Sri Lankan ladies residing in Thailand.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, received a distinguished delegation of Senators from the Senate of Thailand at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok on 18 June 2025.
The Thai delegation included Dr. Noppadol In-na, Senator, Vice Chairperson and member of the Senate Working Group on Science and Technology; Pichan Pornsiripratharn, Senator and Spokesman of the Senate Committee on Transportation; and Wasana Yossorn, Senator and Member of the Senate Committee on the Independent Organs under the Constitution, Anti-Corruption and Misconduct, and Good Governance Promotion.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in a productive discussion on the long-standing bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand, which are deeply rooted in shared cultural and religious ties. The Senators and the Ambassador reflected on the significance of the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries being commemorated this year with multiple activities by the Embassy of Sri Lanka together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
Ambassador Edirisinghe extended an invitation to the President of the Senate of Thailand to undertake a visit to Sri Lanka, along with fellow Senators, to further enhance bilateral parliamentary exchanges. The discussion also focused on strengthening the Parliamentary Friendship Group between Sri Lanka and Thailand to foster greater inter-parliamentary collaboration.
The visiting Senators expressed keen interest in expanding cooperation in the fields of trade and tourism, and also discussed the potential for partnership in the agricultural sector, particularly in supporting local fruits farmers in Thailand. They requested possible collaboration and technical support from Sri Lanka to promote this sector in the future.
