Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Thailand Attends “GI Thailand: The Way of the Land”
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand & Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, attended the prestigious event titled “GI Thailand: The Way of the Land, Preserving Local Heritage for Global Recognition,” organized by the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand on Saturday, 21 March 2026, at Baan Dusit Thani, Bangkok.
Strengthening Buddhist Heritage Diplomacy: Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Thailand Delivers a Lecture at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to UNESCAP in Bangkok, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, was invited to deliver a lecture on “Guardians of the Dhamma: The Role of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Anagarika Dharmapala’s Pioneering Efforts to Preserve Buddhagaya” at the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, one of Thailand’s foremost centres of Buddhist higher education on 17 March 2026.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, C.A. Chaminda I.Colonne called on Director General Ureerat Chareontoh of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) on 07.09.2021 and both exchanged their views on further cooperation in different projects/fields in Sri Lanka.
ทั้งสองฝ่ายได้หารือความคืบหน้าการดำเนินงานภายใต้แผนงานความร่วมมือเพื่อการพัฒนาไทย-ศรีลังกา ระยะ ๕ ปี ฉบับปัจจุบัน (ปี ๒๕๕๘ – ๒๕๖๒ ซึ่งขยายเวลาถึงปี ๒๕๖๔) รวมทั้งโครงการความร่วมมือเพื่อการพัฒนาชุมชนต้นแบบอย่างยั่งยืนบนพื้นฐานการประยุกต์ใช้หลักปรัชญาของเศรษฐกิจพอเพียง (SEP) ใน ๓ จังหวัดของศรีลังกา ได้แก่ Kandy, Polonnaruwa และ Puttalam การยกร่างแผนงานความร่วมมือเพื่อการพัฒนาไทย-ศรีลังกา ระยะ ๕ ปี ฉบับที่ ๒ (ปี ๒๕๖๕ – ๒๕๖๙) ในสาขาที่เคยตกลงร่วมกันไว้และจะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อทั้งสองฝ่าย อาทิ สาธารณสุข เกษตร ท่องเที่ยว การพัฒนาชุมชน และอื่น ๆ เช่น การพัฒนาศักยภาพด้านการทูต
เอกอัครราชทูตสาธารณรัฐสังคมนิยมประชาธิปไตยศรีลังกาฯ ได้เน้นย้ำถึงความใกล้ชิดทางวัฒนธรรมและพุทธศาสนาระหว่างสองประเทศ และขอให้ฝ่ายไทยพิจารณาความเป็นไปได้ในการจัดตั้งศูนย์การสอนภาษาไทยที่ศรีลังกาเพื่อกระชับความสัมพันธ์ โดยเฉพาะระหว่างพระสงฆ์ไทยกับศรีลังกา และแสดงความสนใจที่จะขอรับการถ่ายทอดเทคโนโลยีจากไทยเพื่อพัฒนาศักยภาพของศรีลังกาในด้าน SMEs หนึ่งตำบลหนึ่งผลิตภัณฑ์ (OTOP) การแปรรูปผักและผลไม้ด้วยพลังงานแสงอาทิตย์ และการผลิตภาพยนตร์ เป็นต้น รวมทั้งกล่าวถึงการส่งผู้สมัครชาวศรีลังกาเพื่อเข้ารับการคัดเลือกให้ดำรงตำแหน่งเลขาธิการแผนโคลัมโบในรอบวาระปี ๒๕๖๕ –๒๕๖๙ ซึ่งทั้งไทยและ ศรีลังกาเป็นประเทศสมาชิกและมีสิทธิ์ออกเสียงในการคัดเลือกตำแหน่งดังกล่าว
นอกจากนี้ อธิบดีกรมความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศแจ้งยินดีให้ความร่วมมือกับศรีลังกาในเรื่องที่ไทยให้ความสำคัญ ได้แก่ การฟื้นฟูภายหลังสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของโรค COVID-19 โดยการเสริมสร้างความมั่นคงใน ๔ ด้าน คือ สาธารณสุข อาหาร อาชีพ พลังงานและสิ่งแวดล้อม การฟื้นฟูเศรษฐกิจโดยประยุกต์ใช้ SEP ผนวกกับ BCG Economy Model รวมทั้งความร่วมมือภายใต้กรอบ ความริเริ่มแห่งอ่าวเบงกอลสำหรับความร่วมมือหลากหลายสาขาทางวิชาการและเศรษฐกิจ (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation : BIMSTEC) ที่ไทยจะเป็นประธานต่อจากศรีลังกาในปี ๒๕๖๕ และเชิญชวนศรีลังกาให้เข้าร่วมงาน Global South-South Development (GSSD) Expo 2021 ที่ไทยจะจัดร่วมกับ UNOSSC และ ESCAP ทั้งในรูปแบบออนไลน์และจัดกิจกรรมแบบกายภาพในประเทศไทย ในช่วงตั้งแต่เดือนพฤศจิกายน ๒๕๖๔ ถึงเดือนกันยายน ๒๕๖๕
