Strengthening Post-Disaster Recovery Cooperation: Ambassador of Thailand Meets Executive Director of ADPC

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe had a meeting with Mr. Aslam Perwaiz, Executive Director of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) at the ADPC premises, to discuss continued cooperation in post-disaster recovery and long-term resilience building in Sri Lanka following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. During the meeting, H.E. the Ambassador expressed
her sincere appreciation for the timely technical and monetary assistance extended by ADPC in response to the impacts of Cyclone Ditwah, which caused widespread damage across several parts of Sri Lanka. In this regard, the Ambassador formally handed over a Letter of Acknowledgement from Hon. H M Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign
Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka to the Executive Director of ADPC, conveying the Government of Sri Lanka’s appreciation for ADPC’s support and solidarity.

Thailand’s Industries Minister Hon. Suriya Juangroongruangkit said he would be pleased to lead a delegation of the Thai Chamber of Industries to Sri Lanka, when time permits to schedule such an engagement following the COVID 19 pandemic. He said so when H.E Mrs. Samantha K. Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Thailand called on the Minister. The Minister further said that the best way to enhance relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand in the sphere of industries is to promote private sector engagement in both countries. The Ambassador briefed the Minister and senior officials of the Thai Ministry of Industries the potential for Foreign Direct Investment in Sri Lanka including in the High-tec Industries, and brining value addition to Sri Lankan natural resources.

The Ambassador also requested that the Senior Officials of the Ministries of Industry in both countries originate an online meeting to follow up on the Letter of Intent (LOI), signed on 9th March 2016 to enhance cooperation in the areas of industries greed therein.

The Minister of Industries was accompanied by the Secretary to the Ministry of Industries Mr. Krichanont Iyapunya, the Spokesperson of the Ministry Suchada Thaensap, and Deputy Director General Ms.Payouw Kummook. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mrs. Poornima Gunasekera, Head of Chancery and Mr. Anil Sirimanna, Counsellor/Commerce of the Embassy.
