Addressing the online meeting of the conference.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksha stresses that it is important to make global food systems a more sustainable transformation, and all parties must work together for it.

The President said this while addressing the online meeting of the UN Food Systems Summit.

The UN Food Systems Summit was inaugurated in New York yesterday (23) in conjunction with the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The keynote lecture of the conference organized on the theme ′′ Accelerating the steps for the future we want was conducted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksha addressed the summit that the COVID epidemic was an event that showed weaknesses in global food security and the situation will get worse with climate change.

Sustainable food systems are part of Sri Lanka’s fertile social cultural and economic heritage. The President said his government’s recent steps to ban chemical fertilizers, pesticides and pesticides that adversely affect the health of the people and the environment were an important milestone in the state’s policy on sustainable development.

The president who showed that it is difficult to change the attitude of farmers who are used to chemical fertilizers for long-term and that it is also a challenge to produce organic fertilizers locally, noted that Sri Lanka welcomes technical and bilateral cooperation for this.

It is essential to improve market-targeted food chains to reduce rural poverty when promoting organic agriculture. The President also expressed confidence that Sri Lanka’s food system will be able to sustainably transform and create better food security.

The President, who appreciated the technical support given to Sri Lanka by the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Program, also thanked the support from other global organizations and scientific institutions.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksha also said that it should be the aim of all state leaders to ensure a better future for their citizens and the planet and that everyone should work together to find solutions to the global challenges faced there.

The President also expressed confidence that the United Nations Food Systems Summit will lead the way to transform global food systems so that the health of humans as well as the planet can be better nourished.

එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ ආහාර පද්ධති සමුළුවේ මාර්ගගත සභාව අමතමින් ජනාධිපතිතුමා මේ බව ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මහා මණ්ඩලයේ 76 වන සැසිවාරයට සමගාමීව ඊයේ (23) නිව්යෝර්ක් නුවරදී එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ ආහාර පද්ධති සමුළුව ආරම්භ කෙරිණි. ” අපට අවශ්‍ය අනාගතය සඳහා වූ පියවර වේගවත් කිරීම” යන තේමාව යටතේ සංවිධානය කර තිබූ සමුළුවේ ප්‍රධාන දේශනය එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මහලේකම් ඇන්ටෝනියෝ ගුටරේස් මහතා විසින් සිදුකරනු ලැබීය.

කොවිඩ් වසංගතය ගෝලීය ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතාවයේ පැවති දුර්වලතා පෙන්නුම් කළ අවස්ථාවක් බවත්, දේශගුණික විපර්යාසයන් සමග මෙම තත්ත්වය තවත් අයහපත් අතට හැරෙනු ඇති බවත් සමුළුව අමතමින් ජනාධිපති ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමා විසින් පෙන්වා දෙනු ලැබිණ.

තිරසර ආහාර පද්ධති යනු ශ්‍රි ලංකාවේ සාරවත් සමාජ සංස්කෘතික හා ආර්ථික උරුමයේ කොටසකි. ජනතාවගේ සෞඛ්‍යයට සහ පරිසරයට අයහපත් බලපෑම් එල්ල කරන රසායනික පොහොර, කෘමිනාශක සහ වල්නාශක තහනම් කිරීමට තම රජය මෑතකදී ගත් පියවර තිරසර සංවර්ධනය පිළිබඳ වූ රාජ්‍ය ප්‍රතිපත්තියේ වැදගත් සන්ධිස්ථානයක් බව ජනාධිපතිතුමා පැවසීය.

දීර්ඝකාලීනව රසායනික පොහාරවලට හුරු වූ ගොවීන්ගේ ආකල්පමය වෙනසක් ඇති කිරීම දුෂ්කර වන අතර කාබනික පොහොර ප්‍රමාණවත් පරිදි දේශීයව නිෂ්පාදනය කිරීම ද අභියෝගයක් බව පෙන්වා දුන් ජනාධිපතිතුමා මේ සඳහා තාක්ෂණික සහ ද්විපාර්ශ්වික සහයෝගීතාව ශ්‍රිලංකාව සාදරයෙන් පිළිගන්නා බව සඳහන් කළේය.

කාබනික කෘෂිකර්මාන්තය ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීමේදී ග්‍රාමීය දරිද්‍රතාව අවම වන අයුරින් වෙළෙඳපොළ ඉලක්ක කරගත් ආහාර දාමයන් වැඩිදියුණු කිරීම අත්‍යාවශ්‍ය වේ. ඒ තුළින් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ආහාර පද්ධතිය තිරසර ලෙස පරිවර්තනය කිරිමට සහ වඩා හොඳ ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතාවයක් ඇතිකර ගැනීමට හැකි වනු ඇති බවට ද ජනාධිපතිතුමා විශ්වාසය පළ කළේය.

ආහාර හා කෘෂිකර්ම සංවිධානය සහ ලෝක ආහාර වැඩසටහන ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට ලබාදෙන තාක්ෂණික සහාය අගය කළ ජනාධිපතිතුමා අනෙකුත් ගෝලීය සංවිධාන සහ විද්‍යාත්මක ආයතනවලින් ලැබෙන සහායට ද සිය ස්තූතිය පිරිනැමීය.

මිනිසාගේ මෙන්ම පෘථිවියේ සෞඛ්‍ය යහපත් ලෙස පෝෂණය කළ හැකි පරිදි ගෝලීය ආහාර පද්ධති පරිවර්තනය කිරීමට එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ ආහාර පද්ධති සමුළුව මග සළසනු ඇති බවට ද ජනාධිපතිතුමා විසින් විශ්වාසය පළ කරනු ලැබිණ.
